the applicati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the alternative. Discussi<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> the efficiency <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the alternative<br />

in c<strong>on</strong>trolling soil arthropods should follow.<br />

The main questi<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> points to emphasize in this exercise are:<br />

• General explanati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the alternatives used <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>trolling soil-borne pests<br />

• The method <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> sampling soil insects<br />

• The efficiency <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the alternative in c<strong>on</strong>trolling insects in soil <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> ways to improve<br />

it<br />

3. Assessment <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> weed st<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> (an exercise <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> FFS)<br />

The idea <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this exercise is to train farmers in methods to assess weed populati<strong>on</strong>s in<br />

the field <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> to describe the characteristics <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the major species found. Such<br />

assessment will also be useful to determine the effectiveness <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the alternative in weed<br />
