SAN FRANCISCO — Three holiday<br />

screenings of "Circus World" were shown<br />

New Year's Day and the same schedule followed<br />

on Satui-day and Sunday, resulting<br />

in a good boxoffice at the Cinerama-Orpheum.<br />

"The Pleasure Seekers" at the Fox-<br />

Warfield opened with a good 225 per cent.<br />

"Goldfinger," in the second week at the<br />

Royal Theatre, was another good drawing<br />

film—in fact, the entire list of exceUent<br />

offerings was well attended. Cold weather<br />

SEATTLE — Despite rain, snow, slush<br />

and wind, ratings soared to a new high<br />

on first-run screens as holiday-minded<br />

patrons queued up at the boxoffices to<br />

buy tickets for the Christmas offerings.<br />

"Goldfinger" opened to a smash first week<br />

at the Coliseum with 500 per cent, which<br />

was matched by the tremendously popular<br />

"My Fair Lady" at the Music Box for its<br />

seventh week. "Goodbye Charlie" wound<br />

up a sucecssful second week at the Fifth<br />

Avenue with 150.<br />

thriving from one side of the city to the<br />

other under the impact of one of the most<br />

exciting holiday lineups of good product<br />

in many years. Percentages ranged from<br />

the 180s for "The Pumpkin Eater" and<br />

"Father Goose" up to the 350 for "Goldfinger,"<br />

in a second week at the Paramount,<br />

390 for the second week of "Marriage<br />

Italian Style" at the Vogue and the 440 for<br />

"My Fair Lady," in the 8th week at the<br />

'Mondo Pazzo' Premiere<br />

NEW YORK—Irving Sochin, vice-president<br />

of Rizzoli Film Distributors, has set<br />

"Mondo Pazzo," succes.sor to the film hit<br />

"Mondo Cane," for its United States premiere<br />

January 27 in the greater Los Angeles<br />

area, where it will bow simultaneously<br />

in 50 theatres. Key group in the multiple<br />

opening will be the Pacific Drive-ins,<br />

where "Mondo Cane" set records two years<br />

ago.<br />

The Sons of Katie Elder'<br />

Under Way at Durango<br />

HOLLYWOOD—Filming of Hal Wallis'<br />

"The Sons of Katie Elder" is under way in<br />

Durango, Mexico. In Technicolor and<br />

Panavision. the movie stars John Wayne<br />

and Dean Martin. Under the direction of<br />

Henry Hathaway, the release is from an<br />

original story by William Wright, who coauthored<br />

the screenplay with Allan Weiss<br />

and Harry Essex.<br />

Roger Bower Joins Staff<br />

Of Gill Advertising<br />

HOLLYWOOD—Roger Bower, on special<br />

assignment with Southern California Theatre<br />

Owners Ass'n. for a year, has joined<br />

the Clifford Gill advertising agency in<br />

Beverly Hills. Foirnerly with Odeon Theatres<br />

of Canada. Bower also served as an<br />

MGM field publicist for three years.<br />

Benjamin Goldberg Dies<br />

HOLLYWOOD — Benjamin<br />

Goldberg,<br />

partner in Film Transport Co. of California,<br />

died of a heart attack December 29.<br />

He was 79. He had been a member of<br />

Variety and had been named Man of the<br />

Year by the Westwood Shrine Club. Survivors<br />

include his wife Bessie, to whom<br />

he had been married 53 years; a son Earl,<br />

who was his father's business partner; two<br />

daughters, Bernice Lansing and Jeanette<br />

Brent, and 10 grandchildren.<br />
