bright new entries, plus the brisk business
which continued for the second consecutive
week in the regular runs, racked up

"Circus World' Second Week 550
Shows Way in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO — Three holiday
screenings of "Circus World" were shown
New Year's Day and the same schedule followed
on Satui-day and Sunday, resulting
in a good boxoffice at the Cinerama-Orpheum.
"The Pleasure Seekers" at the Fox-
Warfield opened with a good 225 per cent.
"Goldfinger," in the second week at the
Royal Theatre, was another good drawing
film—in fact, the entire list of exceUent
offerings was well attended. Cold weather
could have been partly
responsible.

Smash 500 in Seattle
SEATTLE — Despite rain, snow, slush
and wind, ratings soared to a new high
on first-run screens as holiday-minded
patrons queued up at the boxoffices to
buy tickets for the Christmas offerings.
"Goldfinger" opened to a smash first week
at the Coliseum with 500 per cent, which
was matched by the tremendously popular
"My Fair Lady" at the Music Box for its
seventh week. "Goodbye Charlie" wound
up a sucecssful second week at the Fifth
Avenue with 150.

DENVER—Motion pictm'e exhibition was
thriving from one side of the city to the
other under the impact of one of the most
exciting holiday lineups of good product
in many years. Percentages ranged from
the 180s for "The Pumpkin Eater" and
"Father Goose" up to the 350 for "Goldfinger,"
in a second week at the Paramount,
390 for the second week of "Marriage
Italian Style" at the Vogue and the 440 for
"My Fair Lady," in the 8th week at the
Denham.

Theatres in LA to Hold
'Mondo Pazzo' Premiere
NEW YORK—Irving Sochin, vice-president
of Rizzoli Film Distributors, has set
"Mondo Pazzo," succes.sor to the film hit
"Mondo Cane," for its United States premiere
January 27 in the greater Los Angeles
area, where it will bow simultaneously
in 50 theatres. Key group in the multiple
opening will be the Pacific Drive-ins,
where "Mondo Cane" set records two years
ago.
The Sons of Katie Elder'
Under Way at Durango
HOLLYWOOD—Filming of Hal Wallis'
"The Sons of Katie Elder" is under way in
Durango, Mexico. In Technicolor and
Panavision. the movie stars John Wayne
and Dean Martin. Under the direction of
Henry Hathaway, the release is from an
original story by William Wright, who coauthored
the screenplay with Allan Weiss
and Harry Essex.
Roger Bower Joins Staff
Of Gill Advertising
HOLLYWOOD—Roger Bower, on special
assignment with Southern California Theatre
Owners Ass'n. for a year, has joined
the Clifford Gill advertising agency in
Beverly Hills. Foirnerly with Odeon Theatres
of Canada. Bower also served as an
MGM field publicist for three years.
Benjamin Goldberg Dies
HOLLYWOOD — Benjamin
Goldberg,
partner in Film Transport Co. of California,
died of a heart attack December 29.
He was 79. He had been a member of
Variety and had been named Man of the
Year by the Westwood Shrine Club. Survivors
include his wife Bessie, to whom
he had been married 53 years; a son Earl,
who was his father's business partner; two
daughters, Bernice Lansing and Jeanette
Brent, and 10 grandchildren.
