pensioner transport subsidy scheme (ptss)<br />

This subsidy is provided <strong>to</strong> residents in the <strong>Townsville</strong> local government area who receive a<br />

Commonwealth Government Pension (either through Centrelink or Veterans Affairs).<br />

The recipients of the PTSS card are eligible for a 30 per cent discount on local bus fares. This is in addition<br />

<strong>to</strong> their 50 per cent pensioner’s discount provided by the State Government, bringing the <strong>to</strong>tal discount <strong>to</strong><br />

80 per cent. Both the PTSS card and pension card must be shown <strong>to</strong> the driver for the discount <strong>to</strong> be given.<br />

In addition, all eligible PTSS recipients who permanently reside on Magnetic Island are eligible <strong>to</strong> receive<br />

20, $3.00 discount ferry vouchers per annum. When purchasing ferry tickets both the voucher and pension<br />

card must be presented. Voucher holders may use more than one voucher per ticket purchase.<br />

This program consists of a series of regular social activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders.<br />

The aim of this program is <strong>to</strong> bring <strong>to</strong>gether Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders <strong>to</strong> reduce social<br />

isolation and <strong>to</strong> provide information about what is happening in the community.<br />

<strong>Townsville</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Council</strong> offers eight weeks of fun, friendly and low cost physical activity and recreation <strong>to</strong><br />

promote and encourage active and healthy lifestyles for the over-50’s of <strong>Townsville</strong>.<br />

This program is designed as a “come and try” for seniors <strong>to</strong> take part in a physical activity tailored<br />
