2.14 Waste Separation Guidelines The city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lund</strong> is <strong>for</strong>ward looking in its environmental thinking. Most housing areas have some sort <strong>of</strong> waste separation in order to minimize <strong>the</strong> negative effect on <strong>the</strong> environment; this also applies to <strong>the</strong> accommodation areas <strong>of</strong>fered through <strong>the</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Housing</strong> Office. In this section you will find in<strong>for</strong>mation on how to separate and discard your household waste in <strong>the</strong> proper way. The proper containers <strong>for</strong> separation will be found in <strong>the</strong> collecting houses/ points beside <strong>the</strong> building. Please, do NOT throw any waste outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> bins/ containers, as this will attract rats, birds and o<strong>the</strong>r animals. Domestic waste For example diapers, tampons, sanitary towels, dust-bags, dish-brushes, chinaware, plastic toys, Swedish snuff, cigarette butts, leftovers, flowers and flower soil, wet paper, c<strong>of</strong>fee filters and tea bags. Magazines and paper This recycling category includes newspapers, journals, catalogues, leaflets, envelopes and writing paper. Paper bags should be put in <strong>the</strong> cardboard bin. Cardboard Empty milk-, sour milk- and juice packing, egg-boxes, paper bags, corrugated cardboard and more. The packing needs to be cleaned/washed when you throw it away. Brown envelopes and padded envelopes/bags should be put here as well. Hard Plastic Shampoo- and soap bottles, detergent bottles, margarine boxes, cottage cheese packing, ice-cream boxes, food boxes, plastic lids, and soda- or squash bottles which you cannot get a refund <strong>for</strong>. The packing should be dry and clean when thrown away, to make it easier <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> sanitation company. S<strong>of</strong>t plastic Plastic bags, empty toothpaste tubes, cling film, s<strong>of</strong>t refill packing, cellophane, Styr<strong>of</strong>oam. Glass Coloured glass and clear glass should be put in different containers. Deposit <strong>the</strong> bottles which you can get a refund <strong>for</strong> in <strong>the</strong> local supermarket. Metal This is where you put tins, metal lids, tubes <strong>of</strong> metal, (<strong>for</strong> caviar, toothpaste etc), aluminum foil, aluminum <strong>for</strong>ms, bottle caps and tubes <strong>for</strong> tablets. 24
