CHECKLIST FOR THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU LEAVE ‣ Close the Internet connection to your room (only tenants living in areas owned by AF Bostäder). ‣ Do not forget to leave the refrigerator ON! ‣ Notify the post office if you want to forward your mail. The International Housing Office will not forward your mail. ‣ Lock the door to your room, put out the light, and make sure the windows are closed, before you return the key to the International Housing Office. ‣ Return your key before 12.00 noon on the last day of tenancy! Remember to return laundry lock & key and security badge as well. HOW TO CLEAN YOUR ROOM ‣ Remove stickers and posters from walls and doors ‣ Empty cupboards and drawers and clean them inside and outside ‣ Dust and wipe all surfaces (woodwork, lamps, window-frames, walls, doors etc.) ‣ Vacuum and mop the floor. ‣ Wash pillow and blanket (If you intend to leave them for the next tenant). Bathroom :For the bathroom (in particular sink and toilet) please use a special sponge with white scrub surface available in most supermarkets (DO NOT use sponge with green scrub surface as this will damage the surfaces). ‣ Clean the walls and the floor in the bathroom ‣ Empty and clean the bathroom cabinet, polish the mirror ‣ Clean the toilet, also the inside with the toilet-brush ‣ Clean the sink ‣ Clean the soap holder in the shower ‣ Don‟t forget to clean the shower drain by lifting the cover and removing hair etc Tenants in rooms at Britta Holmströms gata must in addition: ‣ Defrost refrigerator and freezer and clean them ‣ Clean the microwave oven Tenants in rooms with kitchenette must in addition: ‣ Defrost refrigerator and freezer and clean them ‣ Clean the cupboards and drawers and walls in the kitchen ‣ Clean the stove and the oven 33
Tenants in international corridors: Leave common areas and kitchens clean and tidy, including washing your dishes. Make sure to throw away everything you don‟t intend to bring with you when you leave. International housing office Cleaning inspection The International housing office will be making an inspection of your room after your departure. This inspection is made primarily to approve the cleaning you have carried out but also in order to assess the general condition of your room. We are planning the introduction of room inspections where the tenant will be present. This system will be introduced gradually during the Autumn of 2011 and Spring 2012. More information about whether this applies to you will be found in the departure information, sent to you approximately one month prior to your departure date. Your responsibility as a tenant: We refer you to point 11 of the Terms of tenancy which appear on the back of your housing contract. Leaving the room „in good condition‟ means cleaning the room properly and not leaving things in the room which were not present on your arrival. If the inspection shows that you have not met the standards required you will be liable to pay for any additional cleaning or the cost of disposing of items. Cleaning properly will mean you avoid paying unnecessary costs: You must clean the room thoroughly prior to your departure. Please note that there will only be one „cleaning inspection‟ so you must see that you meet the standards required when the inspection takes place. Please use the cleaning checklist (PDF document) as your guide as to how to clean your room. The inspection will be based upon the checklist so please refer to it carefully. Some of the items may not be relevant to your room/apartment but be sure to fulfill the criteria for all items which are present. If you fail to clean properly the International housing office will charge you for any additional cleaning which must take place. Below are listed some examples for cleaning charges incurred if you do not clean properly. Prices are in Swedish crowns and are subject to change.
