Mindfulness-Based
Stress Reduction
Course Offered
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
(MBSR) will be offered in an eight-week
evening course this Fall by the Shore Regional
Health’s Center for Integrative Medicine
in Easton. Course participants will
learn how to cope with health issues and find
peace of mind by working with the same
stresses and pains that are the source of their
discomfort. The course includes meditation,
body awareness and gentle stretching
(movement will be adapted to accommodate
those with physical limitations).
The MBSR course instructor is Larissa
Kitenko, PharmD, clinical pharmacist for
Shore Regional Health, who has taught the
class 13 times in the past eight years and is
skilled at creating a safe, supportive and
deeply engaging learning environment. In
Kitenko’s observation, MBSR is “very beneficial
for people who are struggling with
life’s obligations, pressures or worries, and
also for those experiencing chronic pain or
illness, heart conditions, high blood pressure,
headaches, sleep problems or anxiety.”
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
will meet Tuesdays, 6:00-8:30pm, September
10-October 29. An all-day (9am-4pm)
class on Saturday, October 19 is also required.
Tuition is $300, and a deferred payment
plan is offered as well as limited
financial assistance for qualified applicants.
continued from page 30
Chronic Pain
not only less pain and dependence on others,
but more vitality or energy, higher activity
levels, improved mental health, and
greater overall satisfaction with life.
“It’s important to note that CPMSP program
is designed to enhance and complement
rather than replace other pain treatment
programs, says Asche. “The goal is help
people dealing with pain coordinate and
manage various aspects of their health,
which will enable them to be more active in
their lives.”
Advance registration for the CPMSP is
required due to limited class size. For information
