AAAA REPORT
2009/10 National Council Announced
DECEMBER 2009
Peter Hein
President
Stuart Charity
Executive Director
Over 90 people attended the 29th Annual General
Meeting of the AAAA on 19th October. The evening
featured a presentation by V8 Supercar driver Will
Davison who provided an entertaining and
enlightening perspective on the sacrifice and
commitment required to reach the elite level of motor
sport in this country.
At the AGM returning officer Daniel Dunn from
NGK announced the AAAA National Council for
2009/2010. We would like to take this opportunity
to welcome returning National Councillors Andrew
Schram, David Fraser, Graham Scudamore-Smith,
Greg Barker, Peter Martin and Roger Lassen.
The full 2009/2010 National Council is as
follows:
• Peter Hein, NGK Spark Plug (Victoria) –
President
• David Fraser, Capricorn Society (WA) –
Vice President
• Greg Barker, RSP Australia (Victoria) –
Secretary
• Peter Martin, Hella Australia (Victoria) –
Treasurer
• Andrew Schram, Bursons (Victoria) –
Director
• Bob Pattison, GUD Automotive (Victoria) –
Director
• Peter Armstrong, Independent Brake Supplies
(NSW)
• David Duncan, Dayco, (Victoria)
• Roger Lassen, Tenneco, (SA)
• Mark Pedder, Pedders Suspension (Victoria)
• Geoff Rosenbaum, Motospecs, (NSW)
• Graham Scudamore-Smith, Fulcrum
Suspensions (QLD)
The fact that all retiring members of National
Council were re-elected is a strong endorsement by
the AAAA membership of the performance and
leadership of the Council. We would also like to
acknowledge and thank the unsuccessful candidates
for their interest in contributing in the future growth
and development of our Association. The calibre of
candidates in these elections was exceptional and
made for a closely contested result.
Vehicle Lift Project
Over the past two years the AAAA has been
actively lobbying transport regulators for changes to
the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle
Modification (VSB14) relating to the raising of 4WD
vehicles. In summary we are pushing to allow owner
certification of 4WD vehicles where the vehicle has
been raised by a suspension upgrade of up to 50mm
combined with an increase of up to 50mm in tyre
outside diameter. VSB14 presently allows an overall
maximum of 50mm of vehicle lift, without owner
certification. Total vehicle lift under the AAAA
proposal is 75mm.
Comprehensive testing to prove our position was
undertaken in Queensland in May this year. The
testing was overseen by an independent signatory
engineer and involved putting 5 sets of Original
Equipment standard and aftermarket modified
vehicles through a severe lane change manoeuvring
and braking test.
I am pleased to advise that as a result of this
testing we have accepted an invitation to formally
present and discuss the results of our testing to the
Australian Motor Vehicle Certification Working Board
on 24th November. This Board is made up of
representatives from all State and Federal transport
agencies and is the group responsible for
administering VSB 14. We will keep you updated via
this column on the outcomes of this important
process.
Merry Christmas
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is nearly upon
us! On behalf of the National Council and staff of the
AAAA we would like to wish you all a very merry
Christmas and a safe and prosperous new year.
