4503 Classical Culture Capstone Course. Prerequisite: senior standing in<br />
major. Students work on an individual basis in conjunction with a member<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Classics faculty and the student will write a senior paper on a topic to<br />
be chosen in consultation with the faculty member which will demonstrate<br />
a comprehensive understanding <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> the major areas <strong>of</strong> Greco-Roman<br />

3033 Managing the Nonpr<strong>of</strong>it Organization. Prerequisite: junior standing<br />
or permission. A comprehensive overview <strong>of</strong> the nonpr<strong>of</strong>it sector, its<br />
characteristics, and how to manage a nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization on a business<br />
model. Includes interaction with leading nonpr<strong>of</strong>it and for-pr<strong>of</strong>it practitioners,<br />
as well as hands-on experience working with nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations. (F, Sp)<br />
3901 Arts and Sciences Co-Op Program. Prerequisite: concurrent<br />
participation in A&S Co-Op Program. Program allows students to work<br />
outside the university in a job related to the major. Enrollment in this<br />
course will be during a term in which a student is working full-time, with<br />
the cooperation <strong>of</strong> the employer, with the intent <strong>of</strong> returning to OU to<br />
continue with the degree requirements. Upon completion <strong>of</strong> the term’s<br />
work, the student will write a paper describing their work experience and<br />

4033 Managing the Nonpr<strong>of</strong>it Organization II. Prerequisite: Junior<br />

management, with emphasis on board members, volunteers, paid staff,<br />

4091 Career Planning for Arts and Sciences Students. Prerequisite: junior<br />
standing in College <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences. Assist students in the College <strong>of</strong><br />
Arts and Sciences to determine personal career goals, explore career<br />
opportunities beyond graduation, develop a strategy for the job search<br />
process, and improve job search techniques as life-long resource tools. (F, Sp)<br />
4630 CAS Internship. Prerequisite: must have completed at least 30<br />

1113 Principles <strong>of</strong> Communication. Introductory study <strong>of</strong> human<br />
communication emphasizing both theoretic understanding <strong>of</strong> the process<br />
as well as skillful application <strong>of</strong> communication principles and techniques<br />
within a variety <strong>of</strong> settings. (F, Sp, Su) [I-O]<br />
2003 Communication in Non-Western Culture. Designed to broaden<br />
students’ perspectives on human communication beyond the boundaries<br />
<strong>of</strong> Western cultural traditions. Patterns <strong>of</strong> perception, language, verbal<br />
behavior, nonverbal behavior, and interpersonal orientation in Asian,<br />
Middle Eastern, African and Latin American traditions are studied. (F, Sp)<br />

2111 Practicum in Forensics. May be repeated; maximum credit four<br />
hours. Develop performance materials (speeches, interpretive cuttings,<br />
debate briefs) for use in speech/debate contests. Practice sessions with<br />

2113 Business and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Communication. Seeks to enhance the<br />
student’s awareness and appreciation <strong>of</strong> communication processes in<br />
business and pr<strong>of</strong>essional settings. An emphasis is placed on improving<br />
skills in interpersonal relations, pr<strong>of</strong>essional oral presentations, interviews,<br />
and group processes. Career opportunities in business and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

2213 Interpersonal Communication. Introduces the student to the<br />
complex interaction <strong>of</strong> social and psychological forces operating in human<br />
communication. Theories will be considered, but in the context <strong>of</strong> real<br />
communication situations in industry, education, medical and legal<br />
practice, etc., as well as in empirical research. The most recent laboratory<br />
and field research results will be discussed. (F, Sp)<br />
2313 Native American Intercultural Communication. An introduction to<br />
the study <strong>of</strong> cross-cultural communication as it pertains to Native<br />
Americans. Includes a survey <strong>of</strong> Native American culture, communication<br />
concepts, intercultural communication problems and approaches to their<br />

2513 Introduction to Statistics. Prerequisite: Mathematics 0123 at OU or<br />
satisfactory score on the math placement test. This course introduces statistics<br />
with the purpose <strong>of</strong> providing tools which aid in conducting scientific<br />
research. Topics include: measurement, central tendency, variability, normal<br />

2613 Public Speaking. Develops skill in the composition and delivery <strong>of</strong><br />
speeches suitable to various common speech situations and criteria for<br />
judging speeches heard or read. Topics include: nature <strong>of</strong> public speaking;<br />
choosing and presenting a topic; analyzing an audience; organizing and<br />

2713 Communication in Society—Core I. Prerequisite: 1113. Examines<br />
the formats, roles, strategies and constraints <strong>of</strong> human communication in<br />

3003 Political Campaign Processes. Prerequisite: Grade <strong>of</strong> C or better in<br />
2713, 3023 and 3113. Teaches students to apply communication skills<br />
including public speaking, debating, mass media news and advertising to<br />

3023 Communication Research Methods. Prerequisite: 1113, 2513 or<br />
equivalent (Psychology 2003, Economics 2843, Sociology 3123), 2613 and<br />
2713 with a grade <strong>of</strong> C or better. Studies the goals, objects and methods <strong>of</strong><br />
communication research. Emphasis on the student’s role as a critical<br />
consumer <strong>of</strong> research; exploration <strong>of</strong> vocational/pr<strong>of</strong>essional applications<br />
<strong>of</strong> communication study. (F, Sp)<br />
3113 Communication Research Procedures. Prerequisite: 1113, 2513 or<br />
equivalent (Psychology 2003, Economics 2843, Sociology 3123), 2613 and<br />
2713 with a grade <strong>of</strong> C or better. Introduction to empirical research design<br />
and statistical analysis specifically applied to communication questions.<br />
Basic skill building in areas <strong>of</strong> statistical probability, descriptive statistics,<br />
sampling procedures, group comparisons, population estimates and<br />

3223 Small Group Communication. Prerequisite: 1113 and 2713 or<br />
junior standing with permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Examination <strong>of</strong><br />
communication principles in the small group setting. Includes<br />
consideration <strong>of</strong> task and interpersonal dimensions, cohesiveness,<br />
conformity and approaches to leadership. (F, Sp)<br />
3243 Communication and Social Change. Prerequisite: Grade <strong>of</strong> C or<br />
better in 2713, 3023 and 3113. Critical analysis and evaluation <strong>of</strong><br />
persuasive strategies employed in historical and contemporary social<br />
movements, especially situations involving agitation and counter-agitation.<br />

3253 Persuasion Principles. Prerequisite: Grade <strong>of</strong> C or better in 2713,<br />
3023 and 3113. Study <strong>of</strong> the humanistic and social scientific approaches to<br />
attitude change through discourse. Rhetorical and psychological theories<br />
