PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES<br />

SPECIAL OLYMPICS PEI<br />

Special Olympics PEI is a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it, charitable, sport organization. We provide year-round<br />

opportunities for individuals with an intellectual disability to participate in sport. Programs<br />

are available for athletes <strong>of</strong> all ages and abilities in the Community Sport Program stream<br />

(non-competitive), the Competitive Sport Program stream (various fall/winter sports<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered) and in the new Youth Program stream (ages 2-12 years). The new youth programs<br />

<strong>of</strong>fer opportunities for children to practice basic fundamental movement skills (catching,<br />

throwing, running, balance) in a fun and educational manner. If you or someone you know<br />

is interested in getting involved as an athlete, coach or volunteer, or for more information,<br />

PARASPORT AND RECREATION PEI (formerly Paralympics PEI)<br />

ParaSport and Recreation PEI is a volunteer, non-pr<strong>of</strong>it and charitable organization<br />

established in 1974. ParaSport and Recreation PEI provide recreation and sport opportunities<br />

for individuals with a physical disability on PEI. Programs that are <strong>of</strong>fered during the<br />

fall and winter months include, Sledge Hockey, Wheelchair Basketball, Aqua-Abilities<br />

(swimming lessons for children with a disability) and the Wheelchair Basketball School<br />

Program. ParaSport and Recreation PEI has a variety <strong>of</strong> equipment (e.g. sport wheelchairs,<br />

hockey sleds, handcycles, goalball equipment, etc.) available to loan free <strong>of</strong> charge. Sport<br />

demonstrations are also available.<br />
