INTEGRATING STEM TOPICS INTO YOUR TEACHING INTEGRATING STEM TOPICS INTO YOUR TEACHING Global Classroom supports the Washington STEM Initiative which seeks to improve student achievement and opportunity in areas critical to our state’s economic prosperity: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The Initiative aims to catalyze innovation in the state’s K-12 education system, increase teacher effectiveness and student learning, and dramatically raise the number of Washington students graduating ready for college and work and succeeding in STEM degree programs. These efforts are intended to benefit every student in the state, with a particular emphasis on accelerating the achievement of low-income and minority students. Below are resources that might help you integrate STEM into your into your humanities/social studies classroom. We encourage RESOURCES you to pass ON these TURKISH suggestions NEWS on to your colleagues in other subject areas. All of the resources below can be applied to STEM lessons. Introductory Resources GENERAL AND INTRODUCTORY RESOURCES Economist Country Briefing: Turkey http://www.economist.com/countries/Turkey/ Contains recent articles on Turkey, a basic fact sheet, statistics, an explanation of the political structure, and a map, among other useful links. World Bank Profile: Turkey http://www.worldbank.org.tr/ Turkey joined the World Bank in 1947 and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in 1956. Since the start of the country program, 163 projects for a total amount of $25.3 billion were approved by the World Bank’s Board of Directors. Overall commitments for active projects reached about $6 billion, corresponding to 37 percent of the World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia Region lending and six percent of the institution’s overall active lending.
