Tour <strong>of</strong> a plant engaged in hot-dip galvanizing <strong>of</strong> metals. Takes a<br />
full walk through the entire process <strong>of</strong> material receipt, handling,<br />
preparation, hot dip, cooling, repairing and shipping. Extensive<br />
discussion on the safety requirements on working with acid<br />
washes, super heated metals and caustic chemicals.<br />
Emphasis on materials, proper application, inspection, quality<br />
control.<br />

Tour <strong>of</strong> local rebar manufacturing facility and fabrication shop.<br />
The tour includes the conversion <strong>of</strong> scrap steel into ingots and<br />
then the forming into various qualities and sizes <strong>of</strong> rebar.<br />
Explanation <strong>of</strong> rebar identification coding.<br />
In the afternoon a rebar fabrication shop is toured and<br />
inspectors see the construction <strong>of</strong> welded and tied rebar cages.<br />

Cement Plant Tour<br />

Tour <strong>of</strong> a plant engaged in the manufacture <strong>of</strong> Portland Cement.<br />
This tour starts at the quarry where the mining <strong>of</strong> limestone is<br />
done. Processing and transport <strong>of</strong> the limestone to the kiln plant.<br />
At the kiln plant the various processes <strong>of</strong> heating the slurry<br />
mixture, drying and then rolling the clinker to a finish product.<br />
View the storage area where the product is housed until it is<br />
ready for bagging or shipped in truck or rail cars. Emphasis on<br />
materials selection, blending, quality control.<br />
Seminar on concrete epoxies and compounds used in<br />
construction. Seminar is held at various<br />
manufacturers/distributors <strong>of</strong> these products.<br />

Tour <strong>of</strong> a clay brick plant. This tour covers the selection <strong>of</strong> clay,<br />
processing, and manufacturing various types <strong>of</strong> structural and<br />
architectural brick.<br />
This seminar is presented by a grout anchor distributor/vendor to<br />
inform <strong>BCA</strong> inspectors on the approved types <strong>of</strong> concrete<br />
anchors and systems.<br />
