Library<br />

Special collections include the Southwest Room, for<br />

regional information and resources, and The Carter<br />

Room, for earth science and geologic materials. The<br />

Library houses 88,000 volumes, with an additional<br />

18,000 electronic books and more than 60 research<br />

databases. The Library offers interlibrary loan - a<br />

service that allows students, faculty and staff to<br />

borrow books and journal articles from other libraries<br />

throughout the U.S. Reference librarians are available<br />

during all regular Library hours to assist patrons with<br />

research and other informational needs.<br />

Students can access library resources through the<br />

library’s web page sanjuancollege.edu/lib from on or<br />

off campus. A self-check system is available for<br />

students, staff and faculty to use with a valid <strong>College</strong><br />

I.D. The Law Library is located adjacent to the student<br />

study area. please ask at the circulation desk in the<br />

main library for access to the law collection.<br />

Aztec Public Library<br />

The Aztec public Library is located in the Aztec Family<br />

Center, 315 S. Ash St., which also houses <strong>San</strong> <strong>Juan</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> East, the Aztec Boys & Girls Club, and Vista<br />

Nueva High School. Library staff provides specific<br />

reference and research services for <strong>San</strong> <strong>Juan</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

students.<br />

The SJC West Library is located at 69 County Road<br />

6500 in Kirtland. The Library has access to the SJC<br />

Library’s online catalog and databases. In addition<br />

to general reference materials and periodicals, it<br />

houses a children’s collection in the Reading Enrichment<br />

Room. Reference service is available monday<br />

through Friday.<br />

Native American Center<br />

Native American students are encouraged to visit the<br />

Native American Center in room 1610. The NAC staff<br />

coordinates with tribal financial aid package for students<br />

and offers assistance in admission procedures; personal,<br />

academic, and vocational advisement; employment<br />

opportunities; and adjustment to academic life at <strong>San</strong><br />

<strong>Juan</strong> <strong>College</strong>. The NAC promotes culture enrichment<br />

activities on and off campus including the annual <strong>San</strong><br />

<strong>Juan</strong> <strong>College</strong> pow Wow and serves as a liaison for the<br />

college to Native American communities and educational<br />

organizations. The NAC office is open from 8 a.m. to<br />

5 p.m. monday through Friday. For further information,<br />

New Mexico General<br />

Education Common Core<br />

In accordance with policies established by the Nm<br />

Higher Education Department, designated general<br />

education courses successfully completed at any<br />

regionally accredited public institution of higher education<br />

in New mexico are guaranteed to transfer to any<br />

New mexico college or university. Students enrolling<br />

for the fi rst year of study at a New mexico college or<br />

university and considering possible transfer into a<br />

certifi cate and/or degree program at another institution<br />

are encouraged to take the courses approved for<br />

transfer during their freshman and sophomore year of<br />

study. Approved courses guaranteed to transfer and<br />

meet general education requirements can be found<br />

at http://hed.state.nm.us. Click on the “<strong>College</strong>s and<br />

Universities” link, then “Transferring Credits.”<br />

Also, some courses adhere to the universal “common<br />

course number” creating an easy one-to-one match.<br />

If you would like an escort to walk with you to your car,<br />

call the Department of public Safety Offi ce at<br />

Student Activities<br />

The Offi ce of Student Activities provides excellent<br />

opportunities for students to enrich their educational<br />

experience with social, recreational, cultural and<br />

sports activities. This offi ce also serves as an information<br />

center. The offi ce is located in the Learning Commons<br />

and is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The offi ce is<br />

responsible for Associated Students, the Student Ambassadors<br />

program and all clubs and organizations.<br />
