Putting God First?
“This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will
return in the same way as you have seen him going into
heaven.” Acts 1:11 How strong is your faith? Do you
believe that Jesus will return? In the Gospel Jesus tells us that
He will return and when He does He will separate us into
sheep and goats, depending on how much we used our
blessings to help those in need. So how strong is your faith?

His name is Rev. Raul R. Gaviola. Father Raul will
join our parish staff as a Parochial Vicar on June 1,
2012 and minister until the end of the calendar year.
Presently assigned to St. Mary Church in Dumont,
Father Raul is looking forward to his service in our
parish.

Who and What is the
Baptism Ministry?
Hello! My name is Melody Olsen and I chair the Baptism
Ministry.
The mission of this ministry is to provide first time parents
information regarding the importance of Baptism
and raising children in the Catholic faith.
Ministry volunteers meet twice a year in the St. Agnes
Parish Center according to the parish Baptism schedule.
The group provides a minimum of two (2) hours twice a
year of their time to meet with the parents.
There are no special skills required to become a member
of this ministry except for your willingness to provide
an opportunity to work with young families preparing
for the baptism of their first child. We help educate first
time parents about their child’s new life with Christ and
building a foundation in the Catholic religion that will
last a lifetime. The Baptism ministry also offers a
chance to welcome young families to our parish and
foster relationships for future opportunities of involvement.

During his sabbatical in Rome this Autumn, Father
Cohan will have opportunity to offer a limited number

Pentecost Red
Next Sunday we will celebrate The Solemnity of Pentecost,
the 50th and last day of Easter Time. It is a day of
the Holy Spirit and the color red. Everyone is invited to
wear something red to church next weekend.

It’s that Time Again!
Computer Classes — Mr. Douglas Frost
The interesting thing about computers today, compared to
when I was a student, is they have become a necessity.
During my school years, I did take computer courses.
However, we did not have that much available as we do
today. Floppy disks were the way to carry your files,
Microsoft Office was starting to come around, and the
Internet for the public was in its infancy. Today, no matter
how old a person is, they need to learn the basic skills to
survive everywhere, especially at their jobs. The students at
St. Agnes got to learn those skills and then some.
Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 4 had the pleasure of
learning how to use Crayola Art Studio. This is a drawing
program that simulates all Crayola products. They were
able to draw to their heart’s content without making a mess.
In addition, Grades 1-4 utilized Microsoft Word with one of
their drawing to create their own story. To conclude the
year, they are learning how to use Microsoft PowerPoint to
create presentations. Currently, they are finishing up their
final projects in which they have to create a presentation on
a topic they learned in their regular classes and actually
present it.
As for Grades 5-8, they learned advanced features of MS
Word and learned how to type a proper essay using the
MLA format and online research. In the second trimester,
they were introduced to Microsoft Excel to create
spreadsheets using formulas. At first, the students had a
little difficulty with it because it was new to them. By the
end of the trimester, they were able to create spreadsheets
using functions, formulas, and charts with ease. Grades 5
and 6 are currently working with PowerPoint as well.
However, they learned more advanced features like
animations and transitions. They are doing the same project
as Grades 1-4 with the inclusion of the advanced features.
Grades 7 and 8 were taught special topics this year. At this
time, Grade 7 is learning how to create their own films.
They got to use software they had available to them to edit
them by adding titles, captions, music, and transitions.
Their last video was a perspective video where they were
not allowed to appear or speak during the film. Finally,
since the second trimester, Grade 8 learned how to design
Web pages and sites using HTML. It figures since they like
the surf the Internet so much, why not learn the basics. The
students are finishing up their final projects, which is a Web
site describing four current events they found interesting
over the last ten years.

HURRY!!!
Time is running out! Registration and re-registration
has been in progress for a month already. Please mail in

Internet Safety for Children
A session on Internet Safety for Children will be held on
May 25 at the Archdiocesan Center at 171 Clifton Ave.,
Newark. The session will take place from 9:30 to 11:30
a.m., and will cover the risks that children face from their
use of the internet and cell phones. Risks that will be covered
include risks from online perpetrators, risks from other
children and risks children face through actions of their

Seton Hall University Announces Summer
Sessions for High School Students!
SHU opens its doors to high school students this summer with
an engaging selection of college-credit and non-credit
courses. Taught by SHU professors, courses from Creative
Writing to Video Game Programming, Algebra to Psychology
will give Catholic High School students an enjoyable and engaging
summer experience. Also, select college-credit courses
are being offered at half-price between June 25 and August
6, and a discount is offered to students taking more than one
non-credit course between July 9 and August 10. For more

The Saint Agnes Rosary Society will be sponsoring a
Women’s Retreat Day on Monday, September 10,
2012 at the San Alfonso Retreat House in Long Branch,
NJ. The Retreat House is situated on eight beautiful
acres and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The cost of the
retreat is $50 all inclusive. We will leave Saint Agnes at
8:00 a.m. and return by 4:00 p.m. Space is limited. The
retreat was such a success last September, and we urge
you to please register early—deadline is July 30, 2012.
