Mother’s Day Prayer
God our Creator, we pray:
for new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility;
for expectant mothers, wondering and waiting:
for those who are tired, stressed or depressed;
for those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family;
for those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty;
for those whose children have physical, mental or emotional disabilities;
for those who have children they do not want;
for those who raise children on their own;
for those who have lost a child;
for those whose children have left home;
and for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled.
Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and tender,
and that they may lead their children to know and do what is good,
living not for themselves alone, but for God and for others.
Amen.

THE WORKINGS OF THE SPIRIT
There’s a good chance that you’re reading this
bulletin article because you went to church for Sunday
Mass. With any luck (even if it’s the Saturday Mass of
anticipation), the sun is shining outside. If it’s early
Sunday morning, perhaps you still saw the moon in the
sky as you were on your way to celebrate the Eucharist.
Church, sun, moon. Stable and staple parts of our lives.
But today we hear of a place, the place of our Christian
destiny—the new and heavenly Jerusalem—where there
is no temple, no sun, no moon. All of these will be
replaced by the Lamb of God: Jesus Christ crucified,
dead, buried, and risen from the dead!
Day by day, week by week, we will still have,
and we need, the sun and moon, and the Lord’s house on
earth to offer our worship. But even while we enjoy the
celestial luminaries and offer our praise to the Lamb, we
keep our gaze focused on that time and place when all
light will be eclipsed by the light of Christ’s eternal
glory, and we will join the angels and saints in the
temple that is God, as we continue to sing our ceaseless

Catholic Communication Campaign

Campaign. Collection proceeds support a wide variety
of media projects that spread the gospel message and
connect communities and individuals to their faith and

Ascension Thursday
This Thursday we will celebrate the Solemnity of The
Ascension of the Lord. It is a day of obligation for all
Roman Catholics. We will celebrate Eucharist:
Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday at 7:00 a.m.,
9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

Initiation of Adults
• Is the Lord calling you to a closer relationship

ST. AGNES
“A wonderful place to be”
Second Grade News
All of the second graders have recently received their
First Holy Communion. I am now teaching a classroom
full of little angels! We are excitedly preparing for the
May Crowning, when one lucky little girl will be
chosen to crown the statue of our Blessed Mother. This
will take place in church after the 9:00 a.m. Mass on
Ascension Thursday, May 13.
Each child designed a butterfly and then wrote a
descriptive paragraph about their butterfly. The
children also learned how to do a book report. They
wrote their first book reports on bookworms. Both their
book reports and butterfly stories are hanging in the hall
for all to see.
We have also completed a math project involving
making and labeling three dimensional geometric
shapes. These figures were difficult to put together, but
the students did a great job.
We will soon be studying the planets in Science. The
students will then make a model of our Solar System.
We are planning a field trip to the Liberty Science
Center on May 24. The children will see a film on
dinosaurs as well as experiencing the many exhibits on
display there. The students are really excited about this
trip.
Annulment Information Evening Scheduled
An Annulment Information Evening is scheduled for
Wednesday, May 12, 2010. A Canon lawyer from the
Archdiocese of Newark will discuss the most recent
theology, guidelines and requirements for obtaining a
Church annulment. The information will be presented
in terms that all can understand. A question and answer
period will conclude the session. Pre-registration is not
necessary. This evening of information will be held at
Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament RC Church
(Founder’s Hall), 28 Livingston Avenue, Roseland, at
7:30 p.m. For additional information, please call the
Office of Family Life Ministries at 973-497-4327.

REGISTRATION FOR NEW STUDENTS
Registration for new students (including
Kindergarten) has begun and will continue until
May 28, 2010. You may register in the CFF Office
located in the school anytime between 9:00 a.m. and
12: p.m. or 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday thru
Thursday (office closed on Friday). Please try to
register early; classes reach their quota rapidly. You
must bring a copy of your child’s baptismal
certificate. The fee for all new students to the
program will be $100.00 per child, except
Kindergarten which is $50.00 per child.

Anointing of the Sick
When the Church cares for the sick, we serve
Christ himself in the suffering members of his Mystical
Body. When the Church follows the example of Christ,
who “went about doing good and healing all” (Acts
10:38), we are obeying his command to care for the
sick.
The Letter of James states that the sick are to be
anointed in order to be raised up and saved. The
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available to
all who are baptized: adults, youth and children (if they
have sufficient use of reason to be strengthened by this
sacrament), whose illness is of a serious nature whether
physical, psychological, emotional or addiction and for
those preparing for a surgical procedure.
We will celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing
of the Sick during the 12:00 noon Liturgy on Pentecost
Sunday (wear something red), May 23, 2010. A
reception for the anointed and caregivers will follow in
the auditorium. To assist our preparation, kindly
contact the parish office at 732-388-7852 or
stagneschurch@comcast.net to let us know if you wish
to be anointed, how many will attend the reception and
if you require a ride to Church. Please note that the
Church Volunteer Rescue Squad will provide
ambulatory assistance if required.
