Precious Blood
On this solemnity we focus our attention on the Body
and Blood of Christ. We listen to the story of the renewal of
the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood
of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people.
Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed
that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and
promising us everlasting life. Blood is the life source that
courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is
the life source for our spirits. Today may we, like the
psalmist, offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, whose
body and blood strengthens us to bring the Good News to
everyone we meet.

Elijah Cup Program
Please prayerfully consider taking the Elijah Cup into
your home for a week of prayer for vocations. It is an

Welcome Father Denis Surban!
We received the wonderful news this past
week that Archbishop Myers has appointed
Rev. Denis S. Surban to be our new parochial
vicar. Father Denis was ordained a priest for
the Diocese of Virac in the Philippines in
1990 and received an advanced degree in
Moral Theology from the University of the
Holy Cross, Rome in 1997. Father Denis has
ministered in our archdiocese as both a
hospital chaplain and a parish priest—he is
also accomplished on a tennis court! He will
begin his new St. Agnes ministry on June
17th. Welcome Father Denis.
Blessings to Father Nuno
In just 3 days, after three years of faithful and
loving service as our parish priest, Rev.
Antonio Nuno Rocha—Father Nuno—will
begin his new ministry at Our Lady of Fatima
Church in Newark. We will have an
opportunity to say goodbye and offer God’s
blessings to Father Nuno this weekend at a
festive reception following each liturgy.
May God’s blessings continue to radiate
through Father Nuno in the service he offers
in the name of Jesus Christ.

(Ministry for Mothers)
The Elizabeth Ministry of St. Agnes is a caring group
of women supporting other women in our parish. It is
built on the foundation of Scripture, looking to Mary
and Elizabeth as models of how mothers can support
one another in their times of need.
Mothers from St. Agnes have formed a network to
help other mothers through prayers, phone calls, cards,
providing meals, babysitting and other assistance.
People are matched up based on their own experiences.
We have moms that have had multiple pregnancies,
miscarriages, stillborns, fertility issues and adopted
children. We are here to listen and talk about our own
experiences and share yours with the hopes of
providing comfort and friendship.

FORMATION NEWS
YOU’RE LATE!!
If you wish your child to continue in the CFF Program,
please return the re-registration form that was mailed to
you in March. Classes are reaching capacity!! The
number of classes, teachers, books and class lists, all
need to be in place before August.
New student registration takes place in the CFF
Office located in the school (Monday-Thursday, 9-4
p.m.).
Christian Foundations for Ministry Program
an adult formation and education program
of the Archdiocese of Newark that strives
to promote the call of all the baptized to
participate in the mission and ministry of Jesus
Saint Agnes Parish is one of the designated sites for the
CFM Archdiocesan three-year program. Courses in Old
and New Testament, Sacraments, Morality and Liturgy
will prepare individuals for ministry in the parish and
diocese. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings
from 7 to 9 p.m., September through May in the St.
Lucy Filippini Room located on the lower level of the
parish center. For further information, please call Sister

Coffee and Community Ministry
We are looking to fill a few positions for our Parish
Coffee and Community Ministry. If you attend the
7:30 or the 12:00 noon Sunday Mass and have a few
extra minutes, we would love to hear from you.

Homebound Ministry
We are looking for a Coordinator for our Homebound
Ministry. The purpose of this ministry is to bring
communion and visit shut-ins. The Coordinator is
responsible for assigning ministers to the homebound
and acting as a liaison with the parish office secretary.

Attention All Men of Sts. Agnes, John
and Elizabeth Parishes
Wednesday, June 17th, will be our next meeting
for Men’s Spirituality and Men’s Cornerstone starting
at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Center at St. Agnes, Clark.
During our meeting, we will hear a talk entitled
“Forgiveness and Reconciliation.” We will continue
considering how to build further on our past
Cornerstone experiences as we prepare for the actual
October 23-24, 2009 weekend to be held at St. Agnes.
I encourage anyone, who has not yet
experienced one of these meetings, to “come and see.”
Meetings last for only 1 hour; afterwards decafcoffee
from “DD” is available. For more information,

With St. Joseph’s intercession, we can aspire to
inspire our friends, family and co-workers before we
ourselves expire.
“Food Collection Sunday”
3rd Sunday of Each Month
Our next collection date is June 21st. We ask that you
bring in a nonperishable grocery item that will be sent
to the St. John the Apostle’s Food Pantry in Linden/
Clark.
Did you know that St. Agnes parish has joined forces
with St. John’s Food Pantry to “Stamp out Hunger” in
our community?
This Pantry feeds over 600 local families who are in
need of food every month from Clark, Cranford,
Linden, Rahway, Westfield and Elizabeth. There are
food collection boxes located in the narthex of the
Church and in the entrance to the school next to the
office. God bless you for your continued generosity.

DOES GOD CARE WHAT I WEAR TO CHURCH?
Summer activities and vacations can make getting to Mass
each week seem like a juggling act. Harder still is finding the
time to dress properly and prepare as we would like. But
approaching all aspects of the Eucharist carefully can deepen
our Communion with Christ. What we wear can help.
Make it feel special. If you were invited to a friend’s house
for an evening, wouldn’t you wear something nice to honor
your friend? Sunday Mass is a special time for you and God.
Wearing good clothes makes it feel special.
Send a message. Mass is also a communal celebration.
When you look nice in church, you send a message to your
Catholic brothers and sisters that you value your time together
in God’s name.
Use this guideline. When deciding what to wear in Church,
think about this: If it’s something you would wear to a picnic,
to play a sport, or to clean out the garage or house, don’t wear
it to church–even during the summer.
TRAVELING MADONNA Statue of Our Lady of

of June 14th.
