Archbishop Thomas A Boland established St. Agnes Parish on July 6, 1961.
1961 Rev. Denis J. Whelan was appointed the founding pastor by Archbishop Boland.
1979 Msgr. Joseph F. Flusk was appointed the second pastor by Archbishop Peter L. Gerety.
1988 Rev. Eugene F. Marcone was appointed the third pastor by Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick.

CHRIST’S HUMILITY
Our age has been called the Age of Entitlement.
We seem to have lost the ability to distinguish between
needs and wants. Advertisers frequently urge consumers
to grasp at more and more goods because “you deserve
it.” Our expectation of reward seems to be
disproportionately high for the effort we put forth to earn
it. Certainly everyone deserves the basic rights of human
life: food, clothing, shelter, freedom, and peace. But this
language of deserving doesn’t seem to be applied to these
things. It is inevitably appended to the desire for luxuries,
honors, and riches. It seems to be designed to appeal to
our greed rather than our need.
In that context, Paul’s simple statement about the
humility of Christ stands in stark contrast: “Christ Jesus .
. . did not regard equality with God something to be
grasped” (Philippians 2:6). And how did he humble and
abase himself By becoming human, one of us. What
could we possibly think ourselves entitled to.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is
a cumbersome title for a: community
based, enriching, exciting, loving,
practical, spiritual, thought provoking and
wonderful experience of church and Jesus
Christ that is offered to:
*Catholics and non-Catholics interested in learning
more about the Catholic faith
*Non-Catholics interested in joining the Catholic
Church
*Adult Catholics who have not received the three
Sacraments of Initiation—Baptism, Confirmation,
Eucharist
The first RCIA gathering will take place on Wednesday,
September 17, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (with
refreshments) in the St. Joseph Conference Room.
Elijah Cup Program
Please prayerfully consider taking the
Elijah Cup into your home for a week of
prayer for vocations. It is an honor and a
privilege for the laity to support this
ministry. During the month of September, the Elijah Cup

Attention all Men of St. Agnes!!
Our next meeting for Men’s Spirituality will take
place on Wednesday, September 17. Our topic will be
Reconciliation, the Sacrament of Mercy. We will
begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Fr. Whelan Center.
Our Scripture verses are John 20:21-23. Catechism
references are #979, 983, 2844. What does calling this
sacrament the “Sacrament of Forgiveness” mean to
you Meetings last for only 1 hour; afterwards coffee
and tea are available.

beginning on September 25th
and ending on October 30th.

is for you. Inquiry Sessions are held every other month.

Monday, November 3 at 7 p.m. All sessions are held in
the St. Lucy Room, which is located on the lower level of

We are taught as people of faith to care for and
protect those among us, particularly the poor and needy.
Our policies reflect our compassion for the common
good, including the least among us. Clothing, food,
shelter, assistance, these are necessities of life. We must
urge our leaders to provide for the welfare and care of all
people in need, including innocent children, single-parent
households, the elderly, and those facing difficulties in
life.

an adult formation and education program

to promote the call of all the baptized to
participate in the mission and ministry of Jesus
Christian Foundation for Ministry sessions begin
Thursday, September 18 at St. Agnes in the St. Lucy
Room located on the lower level of the parish center.
Classes begin at 7:00 p.m. and continues to 9:00 p.m.
