America in the form they possessed in 1936 and as stated in the<br />
charter granted to <strong>Westminster</strong> <strong>Theological</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> on March<br />
31, 1930, under an Act of the Assembly of the Commonwealth of<br />
Pennsylvania. This fund provides tuition scholarships for M.Div.<br />
students preparing for service in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church<br />
(OPC) or Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). This award is needbased<br />
and will be awarded by the Scholarship Committee for 50<br />
percent of tuition for a fixed 12 credit course load for fall and<br />
spring semesters only for a maximum total award of 50% tuition<br />
for 24 credits per academic year tuition. The student must be fulltime<br />
from the point when the scholarship begins, have a GPA of at<br />
least 3.0, and maintain that GPA throughout the student’s career.<br />
Approximately nine awards will be made annually. Receipt of a<br />
Sinclair Scholarship will supersede the M.Div. Ministry Scholarship<br />
award. In addition to the basic application requirements for U.S.<br />
and Canadian students, an applicant must 1) sign a statement<br />
of subscription to the <strong>Westminster</strong> Standards, using the same<br />
pledge that is required of voting faculty members of the <strong>Seminary</strong>,<br />
and re-subscribe annually as long as the applicant receives this<br />
award (copies of the <strong>Westminster</strong> Standards are available from the<br />
Admissions Office. A Statement of Subscription form is available<br />
on the website or from the Financial Aid Office); 2) Provide evidence<br />
of “under care” status in a PCA or OPC presbytery, generally in the<br />
form of a letter from the stated clerk of presbytery.<br />
The George D. Sinclair Scholar Award is a competitive nonneed<br />
based award made to an applicant for the M.Div. program at<br />
<strong>Westminster</strong> who commits to seek ordination in the Presbyterian<br />
Church in America (PCA) or the Orthodox Presbyterian Church<br />
(OPC). The initial award is for $10,000 for the first year tuition<br />
expenses. Upon successfully coming under care of a PCA or OPC<br />
presbytery, the recipient of the award will qualify to apply for a<br />
George Sinclair Scholarship, or <strong>Westminster</strong>’s M.Div. Ministry<br />
Scholarship. Requirements to qualify for the award are: 1) application<br />
to the M.Div program; 2) College GPA of 3.5 or higher; 3) letter<br />
of reference from a PCA or OPC ruling or teaching elder; 4) essay on<br />
hopes for ministry in the church as a pastor, teacher, missionary, or<br />
evangelist in the PCA or OPC (2 pages, double-spaced); 5) signed<br />
statement of subscription to the <strong>Westminster</strong> Standards, using<br />
the same pledge that is required of voting faculty members of the<br />
<strong>Seminary</strong>. (A Statement of Subscription form is available on the<br />
<strong>Westminster</strong> website or from the Financial Aid Office.) Deadline to<br />
submit scholarship application is March 31.<br />
Weir scholarships:<br />
The First Weir Scholarship, in memory of Robert H. and Stella B.<br />
Weir of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was established by their son, R.<br />
Harold Weir, to provide monies sufficient to cover expenses incidental<br />
for attendance at the <strong>Seminary</strong> by one student for an academic year.<br />
Once granted, the Scholarship will be for a term sufficiently long to<br />
allow for the graduation of the recipient. Preference will be given to<br />
an international student from Africa. The amount of the award will<br />
be $25,000 to cover tuition fees, with the balance toward school<br />
expenses, including room and board costs.<br />
The Second Weir Scholarship, in memory of Georgette M. Weir of<br />
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada was established by her husband R.<br />
Harold Weir to provide monies sufficient to cover expenses incidental<br />
for attendance at the <strong>Seminary</strong> by one student for an academic year.<br />
Once granted, the Scholarship will be for a term sufficiently long to<br />
allow the graduation of the recipient. Preference will be given to an<br />
international student from Africa. The amount of the award will be<br />
$25,000 to cover tuition and fees, with the balance toward school<br />
expenses, including room and board costs.<br />
<strong>Westminster</strong> may award special Texas Campus M.Div. scholarships<br />
to <strong>Westminster</strong> students enrolled at the Texas Campus.<br />
Special eligibility and application submission requirements will be<br />
listed on the <strong>Westminster</strong> website.<br />
Th.M., D.Min. and Ph.D. Scholarships<br />
Th.M., D.Min. and Ph.D students do not submit a scholarship application;<br />
full or partial tuition scholarships for full-time Th.M., D.Min.<br />
and Ph.D. students are merit-based and awarded by invitation only.<br />
Students who have been awarded this scholarship are required to<br />
notify the school of their intention to continue in the Th.M., D.Min.<br />
or Ph.D. program each successive year that they are enrolled by<br />
submitting a Statement of Intent form. Deadline to submit this form<br />
is February 1 for the following academic year.<br />
