text (see Figure 5.9). When creating comps for homepages, it is not unusual to<br />

create as many as 60 to 80 layers, which, additionally, can be nested within parent<br />

layers, called Groups —in other words, a layer can serve as a folder for additional<br />

layers.<br />

Another advantage of layers is that they can be turned off easily so that if the<br />

client wanted to see the image in Figure 5.9 without the word “yo!,” the designer<br />

could simply shut off that layer <strong>and</strong> save a new version of the Photoshop<br />

PSD file.<br />
