BECOMing AN OFFICER. There are two different ways to become an officer in the Army. You can become a General Service Officer (GSO) with or without a degree qualification, working in such fields as communications, logistics and administration. If you’re studying a specialist degree such as Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry or Engineering you can become a Specialist Service Officer (SSO). Once you’ve graduated from your degree you’ll be employed in your relevant field. Whether you choose to become a GSO or SSO, there are many methods of entry available to you. The following pages will explain these options in more detail. 7
