Fiddle Music and Introduction<br />
to Improvising<br />
This enrichment class is intended to provide the Suzuki<br />
Book 2-3 students with the opportunity to explore fiddle<br />
music and the introductory aspects of improvising.<br />
Students will learn some fiddle tunes and some basic<br />
improvising techniques. Class size is limited to four students.<br />
Class length will be one hour for four, forty-five minutes<br />
for three, or thirty minutes for two students.<br />

Cello Fun (Ages 4-6)<br />
Introduction to Cello (Ages 7-9)<br />
These introductory classes will include both individual<br />
and group activities. They will give interested students<br />
a chance to learn the first steps of cello playing in a supportive<br />
atmosphere. Students interested in further study<br />
may register for a half-hour private lesson and YPSP Group<br />
Class in the fall semester. These students will have placement<br />
priority over new fall cello registrations. Parental<br />
attendance is required at each session. Cello Fun and<br />
Introduction to Cello are offered subject to enrollment.<br />
These courses are offered in six sessions, with first session<br />
for parents only. Scheduling will be determined at the first<br />
session. Interested parents please email instructor Alicia<br />
Ward at award16@jhem.jhmi.edu. Class length will be one<br />
hour for four, forty-five minutes for three, or thirty minutes<br />
for two students.<br />

the Voice Department offers group instruction for children,<br />
teens, and adults.<br />
Basics of Singing 1 (Ages 9-12)<br />
This class is for children who love to sing and would like<br />
to learn about vocal techniques, sight-singing, and song<br />
preparation in a small group setting. Students will explore<br />
their voices and learn important tools for vocal development<br />
in a supportive atmosphere. Minimum of four<br />
students.<br />

This class is for teens that love to sing and would like to<br />
learn about vocal techniques, foreign language diction,<br />
and song preparation in a small group setting. Students<br />
will explore their voices and learn important tools for<br />
vocal development in a supportive atmosphere. This<br />
course is ideal for teens with little experience who want<br />
to prepare for future private instruction. Minimum of four<br />
students. Student will need to purchase “Vaccai Practical<br />
Method of Italian Singing” after the first class and bring a<br />
recording device.<br />

BRASS, WOODWIND AND<br />
PERCUSSION SUMMER<br />
TUNE-UP<br />
Open to intermediate level players ages 10 to 18, this performing<br />
ensemble provides opportunities for students to<br />
develop their musical potential and aesthetic understanding.<br />
Study includes the cultivation of a beautiful<br />
tone, as well as the building of technical skills, team spirit,<br />
and responsible rehearsal habits. Students will strengthen<br />
listening skills and their ability to analyze and evaluate<br />
music and musical performances. Attention will also be<br />
given to relating their musical experiences to the time and<br />
culture of the pieces they study, as well as to contemporary<br />
society. The class will conclude with a concert during<br />
the last week of classes. Minimum of 10 students.<br />
