<strong>the</strong> Small Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration's prestigious 2010 F<strong>in</strong>ancial Services Champion of <strong>the</strong> Year Award,<br />

New York district; Ms. Baran is recognized with <strong>the</strong> Women <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Champion of <strong>the</strong> Year Award.<br />

Staten Island, NY (PRWEB) May 13, 2010 -- U.S. Congressman Michael E. McMahon has commended<br />

Barton Horowitz and L<strong>in</strong>da Baran, both from Staten Island, N.Y., for be<strong>in</strong>g among this year’s U.S.<br />

Small Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration award w<strong>in</strong>ners. In April, <strong>the</strong> New York District Office of <strong>the</strong> SBA<br />

honored six of <strong>the</strong> area’s top small-bus<strong>in</strong>ess advocates <strong>in</strong> celebration of National Small Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Week.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> April 23 awards ceremony <strong>in</strong> Manhattan, Horowitz, president of Relevant Public Relations LLC;<br />

Ms. Baran, president and CEO of <strong>the</strong> Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, and four o<strong>the</strong>rs, were<br />

honored for be<strong>in</strong>g champions of small bus<strong>in</strong>esses. Horowitz was presented with <strong>the</strong> prestigious 2010<br />

F<strong>in</strong>ancial Services Champion of <strong>the</strong> Year Award. Ms. Baran was recognized with <strong>the</strong> Women <strong>in</strong><br />

Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Champion of <strong>the</strong> Year Award.<br />

“I applaud District Director Prav<strong>in</strong>a Raghavan and her SBA staff for recogniz<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> contributions that<br />

Bart Horowitz and L<strong>in</strong>da Baran have made to Staten Island’s bus<strong>in</strong>ess community for <strong>the</strong> last two<br />

decades,” said Rep. Michael E. McMahon. “And I’m extremely proud that two of <strong>the</strong> six w<strong>in</strong>ners<br />

announced today by <strong>the</strong> SBA are from Staten Island. Bart and L<strong>in</strong>da are tireless advocates for small<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>esses and I look forward to work<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>the</strong>m go<strong>in</strong>g forward to improve economic opportunities<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> borough.”<br />

Both Islanders were been nom<strong>in</strong>ated for <strong>the</strong> awards by Dean L. Balsam<strong>in</strong>i, director of <strong>the</strong> Small<br />

Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Development Center (SBDC) at <strong>the</strong> College of Staten Island.<br />

“I am especially proud that <strong>the</strong> nom<strong>in</strong>ees I submitted on behalf of <strong>the</strong> SBDC at <strong>CSI</strong> were selected and<br />

honored … by <strong>the</strong> SBA,” Balsam<strong>in</strong>i said. “… Both L<strong>in</strong>da Baran and Bart Horowitz have been strong<br />

advocates for small-bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong>itiatives on Staten Island; and I congratulate <strong>the</strong>m for <strong>the</strong>ir welldeserved<br />
