Childcare will not be provided that day. Service logs and reflection sheets, Student/Sponsor Sharing booklets, and all outstanding homework should be turned in that day. Monday, May 6 – Final Gathering for Mentors Only from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Waldorf Room. Please return all teaching materials, Student Record Sheets, and Continuing Education Forms at this time. Bible Study—The Book of Psalms The Book of Psalms is the church’s prayer book; a family heirloom passed on to us from our Jewish brothers and sisters. A study of the psalms is a study of the images, themes, and deeper understandings of the Old Testament. We are all familiar with the 23rd Psalm, the Lord is my Shepherd. But there are many psalms the church uses as songs; meditations sung each Sunday, and some read each day of the liturgical year. We will study psalm types: laments, praise, and thanksgiving. We will learn how to see Jesus in the psalms. We will read all the psalms and become familiar with the most basic images of who God is in the psalms. Our main goal is to become a more prayerful and more knowledgeable people regarding the psalms. Come read, sing, and chant all our beautiful psalms on Mondays from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. starting June 10 for 10 weeks in the Stewardship Room. More details will be provided in future bulletins. SMIP 3rd Graders Perform Easter Play Mrs. Ann Lundberg’s 3rd Grade Class performed an Easter play on Friday afternoon April 5, at 2:00 in the Waldorf Room at St. Mary Immaculate School. Mrs. Lundberg stated that, “We did the play as a way to enhance our understanding of the Easter story by acting it out. We were very excited to perform for our 7th grade buddies, and for our parents and grandparents. We were especially excited that Father Stan and Father John were able to be there for our performance!“ In Act One, the Apostles and the women go to the tomb, find it empty and then encounter Jesus. In Act Two, Jesus comes to the Upper Room, then gives the Apostles their mission, ascends to Heaven, and sends the Holy Spirit. Page 16 One Family in Faith Making Christ Known April 28, 2013
Education and Formation (continued) SMI Kindergarten Presents Spring Musical Sixty St. Mary Immaculate Kindergarten students sang and danced as they presented their Spring Musical, “Three Piggy Opera,” a cute musical spoof of the 3 Little Pigs story composed by Carol B. Kaplan and Sandi Becker and presented April 12 in Cana Hall. The kids delighted their audiences both in the morning for the school’s students and in the afternoon for a full house of parents, grandparents and friends. Thanks to their teachers (Mrs. Ferak, Mrs. Malec, Mrs. Broniewicz, Mrs. Cresta, Mrs. McClintock, and Mrs. Testin) and all 60 kids for an entertaining job well done. Thanks also to the parents for “Three Piggy Opera,” the Kindergarten Spring Musical at St. Mary Immaculate School presented on Friday, April 12, 2013. helping get things ready for the show and for the after show refreshments. It all made the program a wonderful send-off to their 1st Grade year. A few Kindergarten opening are available for the 2013-2014 school year. Register your child now.
