Winding Lanes and Wild Coastlines

Wander through the isolated private woods of Grève de
Lecq and up to the winding green lanes of St Mary, past
granite farms and cod houses, to the wind swept cliffs of
the north coast. Spectacular views of the other islands and
occasionally the French coast await as you return past the
old militia shooting grounds and the ancient hill fort back
to the bay, where you may wish to have a well deserved
leisurely lunch, afternoon tea or just an ice cream.

Spring Colour in St Lawrence

Enjoy a colourful ramble down the old coffin route
which leads into a mysterious valley, visit one of Jersey’s
unseen private gardens and wander along peaceful
country lanes discovering fascinating bygones of Jersey’s
farming heritage and some beautiful granite farmhouses.
Afterwards, why not reward yourself with a welcome
drink in the British Union Inn opposite the parish church.

West Coast Wander
Every Thursday in September
and 7th & 14th October
Enjoy the natural backdrop of the wonderful west
coast, from the beach with its historic fortifications, the
dune grasslands and the dense reed-bed surrounding
the pond, habitat for a variety of species throughout
the year. Discover wild orchids in May within the
National Trust’s Nature Reserve and you may even see
the marsh harriers which nest here. There is a host
of birds, insects – butterflies, dragonflies and other
creepy-crawlies to see on this walk so don’t forget your
binoculars!

Gardens and Micro Climate of Rozel

This is the area where famous local artist Edmund
Blampied grew up. Start in Samuel Curtis’s forgotten,
Victorian, sub-tropical garden where crumbling walls
and steps with weed-covered terraces tell the story of
a garden lost in time for almost 100 years. Visits include
the stunning and colourful gardens of ‘Les Vaux’ with its
own nature reserve, peacocks and red squirrels and Rozel
Manor with its varied garden of palms, wild areas, a lake
and a private chapel.

Every Friday in September
Pass old water mill sites and some National Trust and
privately owned traditional Jersey granite houses.
Wander through the Green Lanes of St Peters and St
Lawrence Parishes. Our travels pass near the Jersey
War Tunnels at Cape Verde, enjoy a great insight to the
Island’s quiet country lanes and green valley.

Take a stroll around Jersey’s capital, its medieval church,
peaceful Royal Square where the last battle in the British
Isles took place, Victorian markets and fine town hall.
Conditions permitting, the tour takes in a gentle climb to
admire the views from Mount Bingham, overlooking the
town, its many harbours and St Aubin’s Bay.

Glorious Gorey

Shaped by a history that stretches from the Neolithic
Period to the present day, Gorey has many tales to tell,
from the oyster fishing boom to treachery in the castle.
Hear about Harry Vardon and the man who captured the
Rosetta Stone and George Eliot, all residents of Grouville
at some time. Head back through village lanes and follow
the route of the Jersey Eastern Railway back to the Pier.
Why not enjoy a well deserved drink in one of Gorey’s
many cafés or bars.

Three Sandy Bays
Every Saturday in September
and 2nd & 9th October
Enjoy the wonderful views of this beautiful corner of
the Island. Listen to sea-faring tales while you discover
vantage points created by the WWII Occupation force
and the flora and fauna of Portelet Common. This is a
romantic coastline of colour throughout all four seasons.
Refreshments are available at the Smugglers Inn at
Ouaisne Bay before returning to Portelet.

From Occupation
to Vegetation Walk
Journey through the remains of personnel shelters,
bunkers and crawl trenches from the Occupation that
are now nearly all but hidden under a variety of trees,
shrubs and wild flowers, which has created a refuge for a
diversity of wildlife from red squirrels to bats.

The Around Island Express
If you like a challenge, why not come along? Choose a
day or do all three! Following on from the success of
Jersey Tourism’s 5 day Around Island Walk, Blue Badge
Guide Arthur Lamy brings you the same route at a
brisker pace.
Day 1 takes you from St Helier to Bonne Nuit via the
east coast, passing Mont Orgueil and St Catherine’s
breakwater and heading along the north coast past
Rozel to Bonne Nuit. Day 2 heads from Bonne Nuit to La
Corbière along the cliff paths passing Devil’s Hole, Grève
de Lecq and Grosnez and Day 3 leaves La Corbière
behind, crossing St Brelade’s Bay, Portelet Common and
heading through St Aubin, before finishing back in St
Helier. Bring a packed lunch and refreshments.
