Seeing the Light<br />
A rare opportunity to visit the lighthouse of La Corbière<br />

men who kept watch for over 100 years. Cross the<br />
causeway uncovered at half tide and climb up the spiral<br />
staircase to the lantern room to discover the intricacies of<br />
19th, 20th and 21st century technology, and the views.<br />

Moonwalks on the Seabed<br />
Walk the gullies and gutters, cross sand bars, rock pools<br />

get wet to the knee (and sometimes higher!).<br />

A Maritime Meander<br />
Take a maritime meander around St Helier’s vibrant<br />
and busy port, which includes a visit to the Lifeboat<br />
Station. Most of the harbour was built in the 19th<br />
century and designed for wooden sailing boats. Hear<br />
about the coming of paddle steamers that brought our<br />
first tourists, and the SS Vega that brought salvation to<br />
starving islanders during the Occupation and see the<br />
Florence and the Jesse: sailing boats given by Jesse Boot,<br />
island resident and founder of Boots the Chemist.<br />

The Baron’s Last Hours<br />
Find out how Baron De Rullecourt planned and carried<br />
out his daring attempt to capture the Island. Retrace his<br />
night-time advance through the deserted streets of St<br />
Helier. Relive the last land battle fought in the British Isles<br />
and the last moments of both Peirson and de Rullecourt’s<br />
lives. See where the wounded French commander spent<br />
his last hours, and where he and the hero of the hour,<br />
Major Francis Peirson, are buried.<br />

Stepping Out –<br />
Geology Walk with Ralph Nichols<br />
Have you ever heard that Jersey used to be a volcano?<br />
Come and see for yourself. The walk from Anne Port<br />
slipway to La Crête Point will reveal the explosive<br />
deposits of volcanic bombs and boiling incandescent ash,<br />
as well as the flow-banded, spherulitic and columnar lava<br />
flows which formed our own Giant’s Causeway.<br />

The Side to Side<br />
This cross island odyssey heads east to west passing<br />
through nine of the island’s prettiest valleys and past<br />
three of the largest reservoirs. The route uses woodland<br />
paths and quiet country lanes as much as possible. Day<br />
1 starts from Gorey, through Queen’s Valley, past La<br />
Hougue Bie, Vallée des Vaux, Fern Valley and Waterworks<br />
Valley to St Lawrence Church. Day 2 heads past the War<br />
Tunnels, through St Peter’s Valley passing some National<br />
Trust properties and then onto Val de la Mare and onto<br />
the Atlantic breakers of St Ouen’s Bay.<br />
