7.1 Policy:<br />
Policy HC38<br />
NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL DEVIZES<br />
The Local Plan allocates land for<br />
educational purposes at <strong>Devizes</strong> as<br />
indicated on Inset Map 1 to meet the<br />
primary education needs arising from<br />
the new population generated by<br />
housing proposals at Quakers<br />
Walk/Police HQ, Roundway Mill,<br />
former Le Marchant Barracks,<br />
Naughton Avenue, and the North<br />
Gate/the Wharf/<strong>Devizes</strong> Hospital.<br />
Nursteed Community Primary School<br />
Proposals for alternative forms of<br />
development, other than community uses, will not be permitted within this area. Each<br />
of these housing sites should contribute to the development of the new school.<br />
Policy HC39<br />
DESIGN OF NEW SCHOOLS<br />
New schools in the District should be designed with the principles of dual use of<br />
facilities in mind. They should include independent access to changing and indoor<br />
sports facilities.<br />

It has been assumed that housing sites already with planning permission or under<br />
construction and small windfall sites (ie those below the 25 house threshold in Policy<br />
HC37) within <strong>Devizes</strong> will utilise existing capacity within primary schools.<br />
It has also been assumed that unforseen windfall sites involving 1 hectare of land or<br />
25 or more houses that come forward during the Plan period should contribute<br />
towards the new school on the same pro rata basis.<br />
7.3 Proposed Provision:.<br />
The <strong>Devizes</strong> <strong>Strategic</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Brief</strong> proposals for education are based on the<br />
principle that the planning and education objective is to provide adequate primary<br />
school place provision within <strong>Devizes</strong>, (ie the whole urban area of the town) so that<br />
