For the sixth consecutive season, we supported junior golf in the<br />

province through the 2010 <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA Junior Order of Merit Tour<br />

Championship in partnership with the Saskatchewan Golf<br />

Association.<br />

Over 2,000 youth aged 10 to 18 participated in the tour that ran<br />

between May and August. Over 40 tournaments were held across<br />

the province to determine the 120 finalists who competed in the<br />

two-day tour championship in late August.<br />

○○<br />

<strong>SGI</strong>’s Community Action Team (CAT) made financial contributions to a<br />

number of organizations, including $15,000 for toys and electronics for<br />

children’s wards in hospitals across the province.<br />

○○<br />

We supported the Virtual Y program offered through the Regina YMCA<br />

to bring after school programs to inner-city youth in Regina.<br />

○○<br />

In 2010, <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA provided a total of more than $400,000 in<br />

funding to organizations in 49 communities.<br />

<strong>SGI</strong> CANADA has a commitment to diversity, work-life balance,<br />

wellness and community involvement for our employees. We continue<br />

to be recognized for this.<br />

For the fourth straight year <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA was named one of<br />

<strong>Canada</strong>’s Top 100 Employers.<br />

For the fifth straight year <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA was named one of<br />

Saskatchewan’s Top 20 Employers.<br />

For the fourth straight year <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA was named one of<br />

<strong>Canada</strong>’s Best Diversity Employers.<br />

For the second time <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA was named one of <strong>Canada</strong>’s<br />

Employee engagement is a priority at <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA. Each year we<br />

conduct surveys to measure the engagement of our staff and our<br />

progress in delivering on our corporate plan.<br />

We involved employees in developing our new corporate plan.<br />

We offer training and development opportunities, classes and support<br />

for work-related education opportunities, including university courses.<br />

The President’s Youth Advisory Council organizes events to help<br />

engage employees.<br />

The Aboriginal Advisory Network works to support, encourage,<br />

engage and increase the visibility of Aboriginal employees.<br />

We’re here for our environment<br />

<strong>SGI</strong> CANADA is committed to considering the environmental impact of<br />

its buildings, facilities and equipment. In 2010 we updated the Regina<br />

East Claims Centre and the North Battleford Claims Centre with<br />

T8 lighting, high efficiency boilers, furnaces and heat pumps, water<br />

conserving bathroom fixtures and motion detector lighting. We also<br />

replaced furnaces and air conditioning units at the Weyburn Claims<br />

Centre with more efficient models.<br />

We have an employee-driven committee that provides education,<br />

awareness and initiatives for environmental issues. One of the Green<br />

Committee’s major 2010 projects was a campaign to discourage<br />

plastic bag use at head office by offering a reusable bag borrowing<br />

service.<br />

The Green Committee also encouraged staff who didn’t need a<br />

new phonebook, or could use an electronic version, not to request<br />

a new phonebook in 2010. In total almost 1,000 fewer phonebooks<br />

were requested over 2009.<br />

We’re here to provide good corporate governance<br />

<strong>SGI</strong> CANADA provides frequent and transparent financial <strong>report</strong>ing.<br />

○○<br />

Early in 2010, <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA’s Board of Directors created a new risk<br />

management subcommittee to provide oversight of risk management<br />

practices. They approved a policy to establish the context for<br />

<strong>SGI</strong> CANADA to manage key business risks on an enterprise basis, and<br />

set out the objectives, governance structure and definitions required to<br />

support risk management. The process to assess and review major<br />

corporate risks was also expanded and formalized to provide a more<br />

objective assessment of <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA’s risks and its efforts to mitigate<br />

those risks.<br />

<strong>SGI</strong> CANADA has a detailed code of conduct and ethics that all<br />

employees must comply with to ensure they conduct themselves<br />

with thought to the Corporation’s reputation and the rights of their<br />

co-workers and the public.<br />

We place an increased importance on privacy strategies and<br />

safeguards for the personal information we collect and access in order<br />

to do business and serve the public. We continually review our policies<br />

to make sure we are in compliance with federal and provincial laws and<br />

as a sound business practice.<br />

○ ○ <strong>SGI</strong> CANADA’s Board of Directors reviewed and updated its<br />

governance framework in 2010.<br />
