E.2.3 Order of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this<br />

document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes<br />

precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and<br />

regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. (See contract provisions<br />

for additional precedence criteria).<br />

E.3. REQUIREMENTS<br />

E.3.1 Material.<br />

E.3.1.1 Sealing compound. Sealing compound should be a non-curing mastic<br />

organic polysulfide polymer. The sealing compound shall be homogeneous, stable,<br />

and noncorrosive.<br />

E.3.2 Volatile content. The volatile content of sealing compound shall be not<br />

greater than 1.5 percent when tested as specified in E.4.5.1.<br />

E.3.3 Water solubility. The water solubility of the sealing compound shall be not<br />

greater than 0.4 percent when tested as specified E.4.5.2.<br />

E.3.4 Oil resistance. Sealing compound shall show no evidence of blistering,<br />

softening, or loss of adhesion when exposed to mineral oil and tested as specified in<br />

E.4.5.3.<br />

E.3.5 Adhesion. Sealing compound shall have a bond strength of not less than<br />

25 psi (1.75 kg/cm). Failure shall occur only in the sealing material itself when<br />

tested as specified in E.4.5.4.<br />

E.3.6 Aging. When tested as specified in E.4.5.5, the sealing compound shall<br />
