It is the second year of this BTEC course
and has been introduced into Year 9 and
Year 11 for the first time. The Year 11 students
have been completing their coursework
from Year 10 and evaluating their Summer
Work Experience placements. Some
students will be able to go on and study for
the Extended Certificate Qualification to gain
a second ‘B’ grade GCSE.
Year 9 and 10 pupils have been investigating
Volunteering and welcomed Holly Williams
from the Vale Volunteer Bureau as a
guest speaker in October. Holly explained
about the different types of volunteering

Denny White from the Visible Department of
the Vale of Glamorgan Council visited school
on the 2 nd November to provide a Health and
Safety briefing with the Year 10 pupils and arranged
for them to undertake litter picks with
her team on Barry Island.

Year 9 Pupils to volunteer with ‘Keep Wales
Tidy Campaign’. The pupils undertook litter
picks at The Knap and the Causeway in
Barry and the Cliff Tops in Penarth.
They gained teamwork and communication
skills; learned about environmental responsibility
and the highlight for many of the pupils
was the hot chocolate from Marco’s Cafe on
the Island! On the 19 th November the pupils
visited the Council’s ALPS offices to collect
their Certificates from Miles Punter ‘Head of
Visible Services’ at Vale of Glamorgan Council.
