Sports News<br />

Australian <strong>School</strong>s Cross Country<br />

The Australian <strong>School</strong>s Cross Country titles were held at St Pauls College, Bald Hills on Saturday, August 21.<br />

Three students from <strong>BSHS</strong> represented Queensland <strong>School</strong> Sport and four represented Athletics Queensland<br />

following qualifying performances at recent events.<br />

L.Cook (13 years Boys) ran a fast time for the 3000m course and lead onto the oval, only to be gunned<br />

down at the finish. His courageous second place followed wins at the titles in 2009 and <strong>2008</strong>. L.Young(15<br />

years Girls) ran well to place third over the 4000m journey. She was easily the first Queenslander home.<br />

G.Anderson(16 years Boys) ran a consistent race in the 6000m event to place 27th. Other students to compete<br />

at the Australian Titles were C.Pearce – 48th 13 years girls, N.Assefa – 67th 14 years girls, C.Black – 52nd 16<br />

years boys and S.Cowie – 13 years boys.<br />

BSRA Girls’ Head of the River<br />

Congratulations to all girls who represented <strong>BSHS</strong> in Saturday’s BSRA Head of the River at Kawana Waters on<br />

the Sunshine Coast. There were a number of outstanding and personal best performances on the day.<br />

The girls have worked tirelessly for six months to gain these excellent results.<br />

M. Jones, in one of her final races for the school, came second in the Year 12 single scull, missing first place<br />

by less than a second, to the winner of the race an Australian representative from this year’s U19 World<br />

Rowing Championships.<br />

The Year 9 First Quad Scull consisting of I.Binder (Cox), B.Barham (Stroke), R.Pihan (3 seat), K.Ramsay-Samrai<br />

(2 seat) and C.McIntyre (bow) came second in a hotly contested A final with only five seconds separating<br />

first and fifth.<br />

We would like to thank all parents and coaches who were involved in the 2010 season. In particular we<br />

acknowledge the dedication and hard work of our Girls Rowing MIC, Mr Peter Hicks, during his first year<br />

at <strong>BSHS</strong>. His enthusiasm and extensive rowing knowledge has propelled of our girls’ rowing program<br />

forward.<br />

We look forward to the achievements ahead in the 2011 season.<br />
