President's Report - Wentworth Institute of Technology

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
As I complete my second year as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, I have never been
more enthusiastic about the positive direction in which Wentworth Institute of Technology
is heading.
In 2006, Wentworth unveiled six strategic initiatives to launch the Institute into the next
100 years. This plan, created with every aspect of the school in mind, was developed
after careful consideration and research by the Board of Trustees, the administration,
and all members of the Wentworth community. I am pleased to report that much has
been accomplished to bring these plans to fruition.

Students, faculty, and staff have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of improving the
learning outcomes, environments, and experiences for those attending Wentworth in
both the day and evening programs. New and improved student support services
have been introduced to offer academic assistance and guidance, promote personal
development, and ease the transition to college. The Office of Student Affairs has
integrated programs into the first year experience to ensure the success of the students,
and they continue to offer programs for leadership development. The Center
for Teaching and Learning, established in 2006, has proven to be a valuable resource
for both students and faculty alike.
In the academic arena, the Institute is close to receiving approval from one final
accrediting body for offering a master’s degree program in Architecture, which will
represent Wentworth’s first graduate degree program. In addition, the Division of
Professional and Continuing Studies has been expanded to offer enhanced programs,
new certificates, and customized methods of delivery. The campus is undergoing
continuous improvements to laboratories and study areas, enabling students’ access
to more workstations and technologies. A campus master plan is well underway and
promises to achieve Wentworth’s goals and objectives through innovative renovations
and new construction.
Successful outreach programs to the Boston Public Schools are opening up diverse educational
opportunities for urban students, and making the path to college a reality. Wentworth
continues to deepen and strengthen relationships with the community through the Center for
Community and Learning Partnerships and through outreach from the Office of Admissions.
Our students, faculty, and academic programs continue to shine as we fulfill increasing
global demand for technical expertise. At Wentworth, we truly are at the forefront of
today’s changing world.
On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, I want to thank everyone who has dedicated
themselves to the improvement of Wentworth. I am confident that your commitment
to build upon our success will continue to strengthen the Institute and pay dividends
for years to come.
