701.6 DISQUALIFICATION PROCEDURE<br />

.1 Yellow Flag — A swimmer who commits an infraction listed in 701.5.2 shall receive a Yellow<br />

Flag. The Referee will display a Yellow Flag and a card bearing the number of the swimmer<br />

being charged with the infraction. The Referee may use a whistle to attempt to get the<br />

swimmer’s attention in order to notify the swimmer being charged with an infraction. There is<br />

no requirement for the swimmer to acknowledge the infraction.<br />

.2 Red Flag — A swimmer who commits an infraction as listed in 701.5.1 shall receive a Red<br />

Flag (Disqualification). The Referee will display a Red Flag and a card bearing the number<br />

of the swimmer being charged with the infraction. The Referee may use a whistle to get the<br />

swimmer’s attention in order to notify the swimmer of the disqualification. The disqualified<br />

swimmer must leave the water immediately.<br />

701.7 THE MEET DIRECTOR shall<br />

.1 determine the course for an open water event.<br />

.2 have the authority to withdraw the sanction on race day if adequate safety precautions are<br />

not in place and shall notify all race participants prior to the beginning of the race of the<br />

revocation should the race organizer proceed with the competition (effective 9/17/11);<br />

.3 have the authority to stop a race at any time should conditions change and safety become a<br />

concern (effective 9/17/11).<br />

701.8 THE INDEPENDENT SAFETY MONITOR shall<br />

.1 be approved by an LSC sanction officer and shall be independent of the race organizing<br />

committee;<br />

.2 be present at the race to assure the approved safety plan is implemented;<br />

.3 assure that adequate safety precautions are in place to deal with race-day conditions;<br />

.4 have the authority to withdraw the sanction on race day if adequate safety precautions are<br />

not in place and shall notify all race participants of the revocation prior to the beginning of<br />

the race should the race organizer proceed with the competition;<br />

.5 have the authority to stop a race at any time should conditions change and safety become a<br />

concern.<br />

701.9 OFFICIALS — There should be no fewer than the following officiating positions filled.<br />

The positions of Referee, Safety Officer, Finish Judge and Timer shall not be combined with the<br />

duties of any other official.<br />
