ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS<br />

OF COMPETITION<br />

ARTICLE 201<br />

CLASSES OF COMPETITION<br />

201.1 COMPETITIVE CLASSIFICATIONS — <strong>Swimming</strong> shall be conducted under the following<br />

classifications and participation is open to athletes from any country subject to further pertinent<br />

regulations in these rules and elsewhere.<br />

.1 Senior — All athlete members of <strong>USA</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> are eligible for the Senior Class.<br />

.2 Age Group/Junior Olympic — All athlete members of <strong>USA</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> 18 years old and<br />

younger grouped by ages. Where a program for swimmers ages 8 and under is conducted, it<br />

shall be for developmental purposes only and shall be subject to LSC procedures.<br />

.3 Post Age Group — All athlete members of <strong>USA</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> older than 18 years of age<br />

whom an LSC elects to include in its Age Group program.<br />

.4 Open Water — All athlete members of <strong>USA</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> are eligible for Open Water <strong>Swimming</strong>.<br />

ARTICLE 202<br />

SANCTIONS AND APPROVALS<br />

202.1 JURISDICTION — As the National Governing Body for competitive swimming in the<br />

United States and as a Federation member of FINA, <strong>USA</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> has the sole and exclusive<br />

authority to sanction or approve domestic and international swimming competition conducted<br />

within its jurisdiction. Each Local <strong>Swimming</strong> Committee (LSC), as the administrative arm of <strong>USA</strong><br />

<strong>Swimming</strong>, is authorized to issue the sanction or approval for all swimming competition and benefits,<br />

exhibitions, clinics and entertainment involving competitive swimming within its geographical<br />

boundaries. Additional requirements/conditions for sanction or approval, other than those<br />

listed in 202.2, 202.3 and 202.4, may be established by a vote of the LSC House of Delegates in<br />

accordance with LSC Bylaws.<br />

202.2 REQUIREMENTS FOR SANCTION — Sanctions are issued, withheld or withdrawn in<br />

accordance with the following regulations:<br />

.1 Sanctions may be issued only to <strong>USA</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> group members or LSCs and their subdivisions.<br />

.2 No sanction for domestic competition will be issued to any organization or person whose<br />

interest in swimming competition is purely commercial, or where the event is to be promoted<br />

<strong>2012</strong> <strong>Rule</strong>s & Regulations 57
