Hillsborough Community College: Ybor Campus The Library/Learning Resources Center Building (204) contains approximately 58,803 square feet of space in four stories. The building is a multi-purpose facility, and includes general classroom space, Student Services, as well as traditional library space. In addition, the campus security office will be moving to the building. The first floor contains offices, the College’s Computer facility. The second floor contains library materials, including books and periodical collections. The third floor houses classroom and office space, and the fourth floor contain predominately offices. Figure 2.3.c: The Library/Learning Resources Center (YLRC) (YLRC) contains the Campus Library, classrooms and offices. The Public Service Technology Building (205) is the largest building on campus, with approximately 81,688 square feet in three stories. The building is home to all the police and fire training programs at Ybor City Campus. The first floor includes general classroom space, a fitness center, a law enforcement lab and office space. The second floor includes classroom space and the crime lab. The third floor contains a mock courtroom, general classroom space, and the correctional officer interview lab. Figure 2.3.d: The Public Service Technology Building (YPST) houses the public safety programs. The Faculty Building (206) is a two-story structure with approximately 23,382 square feet. The building serves as a center for faculty offices on campus. This building also includes offices for some student support service programs. The Administration/Faculty Support (207) building is a three-story structure with approximately 20,864 square feet. The building is almost primarily office space for administration and faculty. The Childcare Development Center (208) is a twostory structure with approximately 14,653 square feet of space. The first floor of the building contains the Child Development Center, which serves as a full service daycare center for the children of students attending Hillsborough Community College. The second floor contains a large dance studio space for the Dance Program and general classroom space. The Student Services Building (209) is completed open, containing 43,438 square feet of space and housing Student Services functions. Figure 2.3.g: The Student Services Building will open in Summer 2010 The HCC Collaboration Zone (HCZ) is a four-story structure with approximately 51,357 square feet of space. The building, formerly owned by Heidt & Associates, was purchased by Hillsborough Community College in December of 2009. Once renovated, the building will be administered through the Ybor City Campus, though most of the programmed use is anticipated for District Administrative functions. 2.3.3 Recreation and Open Space Figure 2.3.h: The HCC Collaboration Zone (HCZ) is located in a building purchased in 2009; the HCZ will be utilized for Districtwide functions. The HCC Ybor City Campus and the surrounding community are largely urban, and there is little in the form of active green space within the immediate area. However, the City of Tampa’s Centennial Park is located within a short distance, and the campus itself has an open air plaza at the corner of Palm Avenue and 15 th Street. 2.3.4 Safety and Security The campus is monitored by security during operating hours, and closed circuit cameras are used to monitor the campus. Staff reported that the landscaped plazas on campus are locked at night. During discussions, HCC Ybor City Campus Staff primarily focused on pedestrian safety throughout the campus. These issues concerned both the fact that several public streets must be crossed in order to traverse campus, and the issues with dark areas between the campus and the City of Tampa Garage facility in the southeast corner of Nuccio Parkway and Palm Avenue, which is the primary facility for student parking. Staff noted that there were escorts available for students who park in the garage, but the issue was still somewhat of a concern. Another issue discussed by 2010 Master Plan 16
