21st century understanding of one of the most
common dental diseases, dental caries, includes
advanced detection, monitoring and treatment
of carious lesions. We provide you with the tools
to create a new approach to the prevention and
early treatment of dental caries in children and
young adults.
Stephen Abrams established a group practice in
Scarborough, Ontario thirty two years ago. He is a fellow
of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College
of Dentistry and the Academy of Dentistry International
and has published over 90 articles in various international
publications on cariology, removable prosthetics and
restorative techniques.
Ian McConnachie is a pediatric dentist practicing in
Ottawa as well as at Children’s Hospital of Eastern
Ontario. He has published extensively and is a nationally
recognized speaker on issues in pediatric dentistry
including access to care and risk-based care.
Dr. McConnachie works with numerous Canadian dental
organizations and is a Past-President of the Ontario
Dental Association.

There is increasing evidence that inflammatory
disease is the main factor threatening otherwise
successful implants. This course will address
the current thinking of implant maintenance, the
anatomy and physiology of implants and look
at cases of failing implants, outlining when to
intervene or not.

The Role of Dentist in a Sleepy World

This session will describe the use a variety of
oral appliances in patients with snoring and
sleep apnea. Participants will also receive clinical
and research information on initial examination,
records collection, adjustment, titration, side
effects, compliance and long-term follow up.
Fernanda Almeida is an assistant professor at the UBC,
Vancouver. She also sees patients in a private practice
restricted to the treatment of sleep disordered breathing.
Dr. Almeida is the chair of the steering committee for the
Oral Appliance Network for Global Effectiveness. This is a
group of international expert researchers from 9 countries
compiling long-term data on oral appliance therapy.

seminars to healthcare professionals throughout the
United States and Canada over the past 30 years
on topics pertaining to physiology, pathology, and
pharmacology. Barbara is the author of 4 books.

to nutrition’s role in health and disease.
Dispelling the “CSI” Myth, An Overview
of Contemporary Forensic Odontology

This seminar illustrates examples of forensic
dental identification of decedents of varying
postmortem states including: skeletal,
fragmented, decomposed, burned remains
and pattern injuries as they relate to bite mark
investigation not only in human bites but animal
bites as well.
Anthony “Rick” Cardoza is a forensic dental consultant
for the County of San Diego Office of the Medical
Examiner, County of Imperial Office of the Coroner, and
the State of California Department of Justice. Dr. Cardoza
is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences
and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic
Odontology.
