21st century understanding of one of the most<br />

common dental diseases, dental caries, includes<br />

advanced detection, monitoring and treatment<br />

of carious lesions. We provide you with the tools<br />

to create a new approach to the prevention and<br />

early treatment of dental caries in children and<br />

young adults.<br />

Stephen Abrams established a group practice in<br />

Scarborough, Ontario thirty two years ago. He is a fellow<br />

of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College<br />

of Dentistry and the Academy of Dentistry International<br />

and has published over 90 articles in various international<br />

publications on cariology, removable prosthetics and<br />

restorative techniques.<br />

Ian McConnachie is a pediatric dentist practicing in<br />

Ottawa as well as at Children’s Hospital of Eastern<br />

Ontario. He has published extensively and is a nationally<br />

recognized speaker on issues in pediatric dentistry<br />

including access to care and risk-based care.<br />

Dr. McConnachie works with numerous Canadian dental<br />

organizations and is a Past-President of the Ontario<br />

<strong>Dental</strong> Association.<br />

There is increasing evidence that inflammatory<br />

disease is the main factor threatening otherwise<br />

successful implants. This course will address<br />

the current thinking of implant maintenance, the<br />

anatomy and physiology of implants and look<br />

at cases of failing implants, outlining when to<br />

intervene or not.<br />

This session will describe the use a variety of<br />

oral appliances in patients with snoring and<br />

sleep apnea. Participants will also receive clinical<br />

and research information on initial examination,<br />

records collection, adjustment, titration, side<br />

effects, compliance and long-term follow up.<br />

Fernanda Almeida is an assistant professor at the UBC,<br />

Vancouver. She also sees patients in a private practice<br />

restricted to the treatment of sleep disordered breathing.<br />

Dr. Almeida is the chair of the steering committee for the<br />

Oral Appliance Network for Global Effectiveness. This is a<br />

group of international expert researchers from 9 countries<br />

compiling long-term data on oral appliance therapy.<br />

Barbara Bancroft has provided over 2200 clinical<br />

seminars to healthcare professionals throughout the<br />

United States and Canada over the past 30 years<br />

on topics pertaining to physiology, pathology, and<br />

pharmacology. Barbara is the author of 4 books.<br />

Her latest, Kiss My Asparagus, is an essential guide<br />

to nutrition’s role in health and disease.<br />

of Contemporary Forensic Odontology<br />

This seminar illustrates examples of forensic<br />

dental identification of decedents of varying<br />

postmortem states including: skeletal,<br />

fragmented, decomposed, burned remains<br />

and pattern injuries as they relate to bite mark<br />

investigation not only in human bites but animal<br />

bites as well.<br />

Anthony “Rick” Cardoza is a forensic dental consultant<br />

for the County of San Diego Office of the Medical<br />

Examiner, County of Imperial Office of the Coroner, and<br />

the State of California Department of Justice. Dr. Cardoza<br />

is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences<br />

and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic<br />

Department of <strong>Dental</strong> Hygiene of Eastern Washington<br />

University.<br />
