Please join us for this interactive seminar
designed to review oral lesions and dental
therapeutics that oral care providers commonly
encounters in a community practice. Topics
include: common benign oral lesions, microbial
infections, and oral pre-cancerous lesion.
Samson Ng is a certified specialist in oral medicine and
pathology. He is appointed as clinical assistant professor
at the UBC, director of the Oral Care Program for the
Medically Complex Patients (OCPMCP) at the VGH
Department of Dentistry. Dr. Ng also operates private
practices in Vancouver and Abbotsford.
Charles Shuler is Dean and Professor UBC Faculty of
Dentistry. His BS is from the University of Wisconsin,
DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine, PhD
from the University of Chicago and Oral Pathology from
the University of Minnesota and Royal Dental College
Copenhagen. His current research interests include
craniofacial development, oral carcinogenesis, oral
medicine and gene therapy.

and they’re using a lot more than fluoride.
Brian Nový is an assistant professor of restorative
dentistry at Loma Linda University, where he teaches
a variety of courses including caries management and
evidence-based dentistry. In 2009, the American Dental
Association awarded Dr. Nový and his office the title,
“Adult Preventive Care Practice of the Year.”

Smile Line Aesthetics with Crowns,
Veneers and Implants
George Priest, DMD

This presentation will explore the use of crowns,
veneers and implants as integral components of
smile enhancement. Topics include progressive
veneer and crown preparation techniques, use
of diagnostic waxing and provisional restorations
and incorporating dental implants with other
restorations.
George Priest maintains a prosthodontic practice in
Hilton Head SC. He lectures nationally and abroad and
is a regular contributor to notable dental journals. He is
a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics,
Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists and
Fellow of the International College of Dentists. Dr. Priest
is a former professor in graduate prosthodontics at Emory
University.

essential to identify high-risk patients who may
experience a life-threatening medical emergency
in oral healthcare settings and to treatment
procedures that a clinician “can’t afford not to do”
when faced with an unexpected urgent problem.
Geza Terezhalmy is Professor and Dean Emeritus,
School of Dental Medicine, Case Western Reserve
University, Cleveland, Ohio. Certified by the American
Board of Oral Medicine and the American Board of Oral
and Maxillofacial Radiology (Life). He co-authored several
books and published over 250 abstracts and articles in
peer reviewed journals.
Implant Management;
Maintenance and Complications
Thomas Yu, DMD, MSc, FRCD(C)

There remains little information on the
maintenance of implants and management of
complications, both surgically and non-surgically.
This lecture will outline factors affecting the
long-term prognoses of implants from diagnosis
through to peri-implant maintenance therapy.
Thomas Yu obtained his DMD with Great Distinction from
the University of Saskatchewan. He then completed a
General Practitioner Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in
Toronto before obtaining his Master Degree in Periodontics
at the University of Toronto. He now owns a private
practice in Calgary and teaches at the Foothills Medical
Hospital. Dr. Yu is also an accomplished concert pianist.

The Young Practice – Plan to Succeed
Bill Blatchford, DDS
Christina Blatchford, DMD

Drs. Blatchford will inspire plans and action for
the new solo practice. Path to success has solid
systems, verbal skills, leadership, marketing,
positive attitude, goals, vision and direction while
creating a structure for practice success. This is
for the young Dr. making life decisions.
Bill Blatchford is a strong voice in dentistry today for
profitability; advocating for more net return, time away and
enjoyment of life. He has helped thousands of Doctors
achieve practice success. In his Custom Coaching
Program, he works personally with Doctors to achieve
their dream practice. He has authored Playing Your ‘A’
Game, Blatchford Blueprints and produces ‘Mornings
with Bill.’
Christina Blatchford graduated from Oregon Health
Sciences University in 2009. Immediately after graduation,
she bought a general dentistry practice in the Portland
area. This is a second career for Dr. Blatchford, as
previously she was an interior designer. She especially
enjoys cosmetic dentistry, putting the two fields together.
When not working she enjoys spending time with her
family.
Botox as an Adjunct to Everyday
Dental Practice

Members of the dental profession will learn how
Botox can play an increasingly large part in the
management of conditions such bruxism, TMJ
dysfunction, and various headache syndromes,
in addition to cosmetic concerns such as
reshaping of the lower facial features.
Martin Braun is one of the most accomplished and
respected cosmetic rejuvenation physicians practicing
in the Vancouver area. After receiving his MD from UBC
in 1984, and his wife, Susan, receiving her DMD in
1986, together they opened Vancouver Laser and Skin
Care Centre. The Brauns have devoted their practice
exclusively to injectables and inject more Botox and
Juvederm than anyone in Canada.
CDHBC Forum
College of Dental Hygienists of BC
Friday, 1:30pm–4:00pm
The Registrar and other representatives of the
College will present an update on current issues
including the Dental Hygienists Regulation,
CDHBC Bylaw revisions and the Quality
Assurance Program.
The College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia
is responsible for regulating the practice of dental hygiene
in BC. This includes registration of all dental hygienists
in BC, setting standards of practice and investigating
complaints.
