Cloud compu ng is not a new rage but remains a rage, nonetheless. It is s ll evolving as new possibili es are being tried out. In India,
the cloud market stood at $688 million in 2012 and is likely to increase to $3.5 billion by 2016, according to market intelligence firm
IDC. According to Gartner, the public cloud services market globally is likely to grow to touch $200 Billion by 2016.
The small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are prime targets given their limited budget for investment and maintenance of IT
infrastructure. In fact, a report by Circle Research sponsored by SAP, says 90% of the SMEs in the country believe that adop ng cloud
compu ng would help improve their business and become more efficient.
“There’s no way that company exists in a year,” said Tom Siebel, founder of CRM vendor Siebel Systems.
He compared Salesforce, a cloud compu ng company, with Pets.com and eToys in the spring of 2001. Salesforce
went public three years later while Siebel Systems got swallowed by Oracle in 2005.
