Ulster University Graduation 2014
02
A welcome from the Vice-Chancellor
Dear Graduate
I am delighted to welcome you and your
guests to this graduation ceremony.
Graduation ceremonies are a highlight for
our students and their families, but also for
our staff. The occasion marks a significant
milestone and provides us all with the
opportunity to celebrate the achievements
of our students. Your Ulster University
degree is a springboard to achieving career
ambitions. We are pleased to have played
a part in nurturing and shaping those
future possibilities and potential.
At our winter graduations, we also take the
opportunity to recognise Ulster University
staff who have excelled in teaching,
pioneering research or academic enterprise –
staff who are inspiring students, and whose
skill, energy and expertise is making
a difference to both individuals and
to communities.
Your relationship with us doesn’t come to
an end at graduation. Ulster University
graduates are making an impact far and
wide. You will automatically become
a member of the Ulster Alumni Association,
with members across the world and branches
locally and overseas. You will receive our
alumni magazine – The Ulster Graduate,
along with regular e-updates – ensuring you
can stay in touch with our developments.
I retire in the spring of 2015 and so these are
my final graduations. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank the students that have
studied with us and graduated from Ulster
University during my time as Vice Chancellor –
over 30,000 assured and skilled young people
embarking upon the next stage of their
education or career. I would also extend my
thanks to my colleagues for their commitment
to equipping our students to fulfil their
ambitions, and to those many partner
organisations in business, industry and in
the community that play such an important
role in delivering the student experience at
Ulster University.
Alongside your academic achievement,
we trust that the skills you have acquired,
the confidence that you have built, and the
firm friendships that you have made will
support the next steps in your journey as
an Ulster University graduate.
I hope that you enjoy the ceremony today.
Congratulations, and I wish you every
continued success.
With best wishes,
Professor Richard Barnett
