Strategic Direction 1.5 Master Plan Goals The Master Plan’s goals are high level, directional statements which articulate the overall context for what is intended to be accomplished. Goals are the ideals that the Town of Ajax and the community should strive to achieve over time. The goals articulated below embrace the provision of recreation, parks, culture and arts programs, services, facilities, and open space. Goal 1: Foster a strong sense of identity and community pride. Goal 2: Assume a leadership role in providing and facilitating recreation, parks, arts and cultural services. Goal 3: Facilitate a healthy lifestyle for our citizens by providing a diverse range of physical and social opportunities through collective efforts with community partners. Goal 8: Seek opportunities to deliver services to all residents in partnership with other public, community and private sector providers. Goal 4: Offer programs and facilities which are based on community requirements that are accessible, inclusive and meet the evolving needs of the community. Goal 9: Support municipal staff & local volunteers with the resources that they require to deliver quality, enjoyable and safe services. Goal 5: Goal 6: Goal 7: Respect our environment and natural heritage through promotion of conservation, preservation and creating a healthier Ajax. Promote and strengthen the arts and cultural sector as a means to stimulate creativity and appreciation of the arts among residents and businesses in Ajax. Enhance the comprehensive trail system which offers active transportation, programming and event opportunities, interpretation, internal and external connectivity, and social cohesion. Goal 10: Support and enhance opportunities for special events and tourism to build community spirit and develop economic benefit. Strategic Direction 1.6 Master Plan Objectives The Master Plan’s objectives are specific elements of the goals and represent a “desired end result.” As such, these objectives guide the development and implementation of the recommendations contained in the Plan, as well as for future decision‐making for the Town of Ajax. Goal 1: Foster a strong sense of identity and community. Objectives: a) Design public facilities as “public spaces” that help define a sense of community cohesion in Ajax. b) Encourage civic beautification initiatives among corporate citizens and residents to improve the Town aesthetic appeal. c) Promote the preservation of natural, archaeological, or intangible cultural resources to showcase Ajax’s rich heritage. d) Develop branding to improve identity and improve messaging to the community. Goal 2: Assume a leadership role in providing and facilitating recreation, parks, arts and cultural services. Objectives: a) Employ effective growth management strategies to adequately plan for higher demands on facilities, services and staff resources. b) Commit to providing an efficient, integrated and user‐friendly customer service system in the delivery of recreation, parks and cultural services. c) Develop a program and service model to set future direction for how programs and services are developed and delivered. d) Exercise fiscal accountability through cost‐effective and efficient management of resources, the appropriate application of user fees, and maximization of potential funding sources and community resources. e) Appropriately consult with residents and user groups in facility and program planning, particularly when significant changes are to take place in the community. f) Through continued marketing efforts, endeavour to increase awareness of the opportunities offered by the Town and the benefits of participating in active lifestyle. g) Demonstrate that the Town employees and Council members continue to embrace an active lifestyle.
