Directors’ Report<br />
In addition, the Company has established a risk<br />
management policy and assigned the management to<br />
continually monitor for incidents which could increase the<br />
risk factors. It has also defined the Hospital Risk<br />
Management Process and the Safety and Environment<br />
Risk Assessment as part of the Hospital Administrative<br />
Policy (HAP). Consequently, we believe that the Company<br />
has an effective management process that can mitigate<br />
risks to an acceptable level.<br />
Information and<br />
Communication<br />
The company ensures the effective flow of information on<br />
internal activities and external factors across the<br />
management levels. All individuals receive a clear message<br />
from senior management that control responsibilities must<br />
be taken seriously.<br />

Responsibility<br />
Healthcare delivery organizations are now regarded as<br />
“Corporate Citizens” and as a result, they are striving to<br />
fulfill their responsibility in this regard. STS Holdings<br />
Limited emphasizes that social, ethical and environmental<br />
responsibility must be taken seriously.<br />
At <strong>Apollo</strong> <strong>Hospitals</strong> <strong>Dhaka</strong>, we believe that our ability to<br />
make a difference extends beyond our hospital walls. Both<br />
as an organization and as individuals, we’re dedicated to<br />
playing as active role in providing services with support,<br />
outreach programs and special services to improve quality<br />
of life factors. This sense of responsibility to the<br />
community is a core element of our professional culture,<br />
and our nurses and allied health clinicians go to<br />
tremendous lengths to adopt mission as their own.<br />
Each day, we are discovering new ways to make a positive<br />
impact in the lives of people both within and beyond the<br />
hospital, and just how rewarding it can be in our own lives.<br />
Our continued growth, both in terms of size and stature,<br />
has been paralleled by the expansion of our commitment to<br />
serving poor and disadvantaged patient. We take great<br />
pride in offering free or reduced rate hospital care to<br />
qualifying patients, as well as funding from Foundation<br />
Fund, which is one of the most generous financial<br />
assistance policies in the area. We also sponsor and<br />
participate is a wide range of physician training and<br />
development programs and activities that ultimately<br />
benefit the general population.<br />
Control Environment<br />
Control activities are the policies and procedures which<br />
help ensure that management directives are carried out,<br />
and the necessary actions are taken to minimize the risks of<br />
failure to meet stated objectives. Policies and procedures<br />
are effectively established within the Company and are<br />
continuously reviewed for compliance, adequacy and<br />
improvement opportunities.<br />
The Board of Directors sets the tone for an effective<br />
control environment through regular reviews of the<br />
processes for identifying, evaluating and managing<br />
significant risks. The Standard Operating Procedures<br />
(SOP) are signed off by each Head of Department to<br />
provide assurance that these standards are communicated,<br />
understood and complied with. An effective Control<br />
environment is set by top management and cascades across<br />
all business functions. Every year the top team conducts a<br />
self assessment of key controls that affect the business and<br />
develops action plans to make the internal control<br />
environment more robust.<br />
Contribution to National<br />
Exchequer<br />
<strong>Apollo</strong> <strong>Hospitals</strong> <strong>Dhaka</strong> has contributed significantly to<br />
government effort in collection of revenue. As per law<br />
Hospital deducts income tax at source, VAT and other<br />
required withholdings from various payments for services<br />
and deposits them to the benefit of the government<br />
exchequer. STS also pays tax on its earnings as per the<br />
income tax laws.<br />
