The Best Policy:
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare believes in
transparency and open, honest communication about
quality to allow consumers to make informed
healthcare decisions. To us, the more patients and
their families understand about healthcare quality, the
more of an informed partner they become in their care.
The shift toward transparency began six years ago,
when Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare made the
decision to be among the first health systems in the
country to embrace electronic medical records and
physician order entry. The electronic medical record
has helped us not only track the quality of several key
indicators from patient admission to discharge, but it
has allowed us to share this information more easily
with our patients.
A few major transparency initiatives were launched this
year on our consumer websites, methodisthealth.org
and lebonheur.org. Patients are now able to view key
quality indicator scores on our site for several
conditions which empower them to make informed
decisions about their care. Emergency room wait
times are also published for all five of our adult hospital
locations, and the times update every two minutes. In
addition, to improve the emergency room experience,
both Methodist South and Methodist North offer
30-minute guarantees from the time patients register
to the time they are seen by a doctor, nurse practitioner
or physician’s assistant. Another online initiative allows
consumers to view next available screening
mammography appointment times on our website.

have received this past year surrounding

In 2010, U.S. News and World Report
magazine ranked Methodist Hospitals
on its prestigious list of the Best
Hospitals in the nation for orthopedic
care. Methodist ranked #27 in the
nation out of 1,600 hospitals based on
our clinical outcomes, volumes and our reputation
among physicians.
Methodist Healthcare announced a strategic
partnership with Columbia University Medical
Center’s Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The
cardiovascular clinical and management group
services team, named Columbia Heartsouce SM ,
shares clinical and quality guidance, access to
Columbia clinical research trials, physician training
and education in innovative cardiovascular
procedures. Together, the partnership aims to
make Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare a top
50 Cardiovascular Center in the country.
