The Congregational Health Network, an initiative of our
Faith and Health division, is engaged in relationships
with more than 280 churches throughout the Memphis
area. The division held numerous seminars,
workshops and retreats for area clergy for the purpose
of healing, public health and health awareness.
Le Bonheur established a new outpatient clinic to
provide forensic medical examinations for children who
had been sexually abused. The clinic complements the
Le Bonheur Child Assessment Program, which
evaluates and provides counseling for child victims of
maltreatment or neglect.
Le Bonheur partnered with Memphis city parks
services, community centers and local swim groups to
create Make a Splash Mid-South, an organization
formed in response to the drowning deaths of two
teenagers in city pools. Since its creation, Make a
Splash has funded swim lessons for hundreds of
disadvantaged children, and instituted a diversity swim
meet and lifeguard training to improve water safety.
Passionate health care leaders, fundraisers and
citizens launched a campaign to raise $5 million to
create the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center of
Memphis. The Methodist Healthcare Foundation is
working with campaign chairman Jim McGehee to
create the only comprehensive inpatient center in
the area, at Methodist University Hospital.
Le Bonheur's Center for Children and Parents was
tapped by the state of Tennessee Department of
Health to implement the Nurse Family Partnership in
Shelby County, an evidence-based home visitation
program for 100 vulnerable first-time mothers. Nurses
in this program follow moms from early in their
pregnancy through the child's second birthday.
Le Bonheur partnered with 12 childcare centers to
provide early intervention services for children ages
birth to 3 with ongoing developmental needs. This
Le Bonheur Early Intervention and Development
partnership provides inclusive environments for
typically developing children and those with special
needs and is the first program of its kind in
Tennessee.
