Issues Being Tackled in Fiscal 2013<br />

Concerning wire rods and magnet wires, we are focusing on<br />

expanding sales in the growing Asian market.<br />

We are also aiming to increase sales and boost<br />

production capacity in the automotive-related field, including<br />

scratch-resistant magnet wires for use in the motors of ecofriendly<br />

vehicles and the metal porous material Celmet used<br />

as the electrode material in batteries.<br />

J-Power Systems Corporation, an affiliate accounted for<br />

by the equity method, is seeking to capture energy infrastructure<br />

demand in the Middle East, taking advantage of its base in Saudi<br />

Arabia, as well as global demand for high-voltage power cables<br />

in conjunction with its base in India.<br />

Subsidiary <strong>Sumitomo</strong> Densetsu Co., <strong>Ltd</strong>. is looking<br />

to expand and strengthen its overseas business in regions<br />

such as Southeast Asia, and is also aggressively developing its<br />

environmental business including energy-saving assessments.<br />

We are focusing on expanding sales of products related<br />

to energy supply, such as low-loss power transmission cables,<br />

high-temperature superconducting wire, and power conditioners<br />

(devices to convert DC current into AC current), which<br />

contribute to the proactive use of renewable energy and help<br />

enhance energy efficiency.<br />

Establishment of Manufacturing Base for Copper Wire<br />

Rods, Drawn Wires and Aluminum Bars<br />

In April 2012, SEI Thai <strong>Electric</strong> Conductor Co., <strong>Ltd</strong>. (STEC) was established<br />

in Rayong, Thailand to be engaged in the manufacturing and sale of copper<br />

wire rods, drawn wires, and aluminum bars. STEC will become the largest<br />

manufacturing plant for copper wire rods and drawn wires in the Southeast<br />

Asian region. While meeting demand from Group companies, it will<br />

aggressively market these products to customers outside of the Group.<br />

The company is also due to manufacture aluminum bars, base<br />

material to be cut into valve components of automatic transmissions used<br />

in automobiles in order to quickly meeting growing demand in this area.<br />
