Four sites are now supporting gateway user tracking through the GRAM Audit Database integration: NICS, LONI, NCAR, and NCSA. More than 16,000 jobs have been tagged with GRAM and gateway user data. TACC accounting staff contributed to the effort to facilitate the tracking of TeraGrid resource usage through science gateways. This effort will result in the ability to track individual user activities, resulting in increased security and user accountability. 6.5.1 SDSC SDSC RP staff integrated the new Dash system with the TeraGrid allocations, account creation, and usage accounting systems. Dash was made available for Startup requests starting in April 2010, and in Q2, the first Startup allocations were created, and jobs from several projects have been reported to TGCDB. The Dash system was included on the list of available resources that can be requested for Research (TRAC) allocations starting October 2010. 6.5.2 TACC TACC accounting staff contributed to the effort to facilitate the tracking of TeraGrid resource usage through science gateways. This effort will result in the ability to track individual user activities, resulting in increased security and user accountability. Additional TACC staff members continued to contribute to activities related to User Facing Projects and Core Services. Maytal Dahan led TGUP portal development activities including the production release of a ticketing interface for TGUP and TGUP Mobile. This enables users to manage their tickets online via an easy-to-use portal interface and view historical tickets. Furthermore, the user portal team enhanced the add/remove user capability to enable easier user allocation management. Katie Cohen, Kent Milfeld, and Margaret Murray coordinated the TRAC review process and organized the allocation review meeting held within the reporting period. In addition, the TACC team organized and chaired the weekly allocations working group meetings, and processed all advance, startup (276) and supplement allocation requests during the reporting period. 6.6 User Information Presentation This objective ensures that users are provided with current, accurate information from across the TeraGrid in a dynamic environment of resources, software and services. Operationally, this objective ensures high reliability of the presentation mechanisms, including quarterly operational support for the TGUP and TeraGrid web site. Support for TeraGrid internal web environments, notably the Wiki, is included here. The UFC team spent a week working with Liferay consulting staff to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve ongoing issues. The effort has significantly reduced the frequency and nature of the problems that have been encountered with Liferay thus far. During Q2, the User News application was migrated successfully from SDSC’s Oracle database infrastructure to the TGCDB and postgreSQL. This effort eliminates the application’s dependence on two separate databases and will allow the User News service to be transitioned as needed to the XD program in 2011. 6.6.1 Operational Activities The TGUP and TeraGrid Web presence continued to increase its user base and support large numbers of visitors and page hits. Table 6-3 shows hits, visitors and logins for the TGUP, Web site and Wiki. Reported Liferay metrics for May and June were incomplete because the awstats script stopped running during part of those months; the issue has been resolved. The Liferay environment experienced one significant unscheduled outage on June 8, when a 30-minute scheduled downtime to permit a hardware move at TACC turned into a six-hour outage due to a switch failure. Liferay preventive maintenance and update periods are being scheduled for offhours until the fully redundant two-server system is deployed at TACC. 64
The TGUP responded to 106,097 portlet requests from registered users. The Knowledgebase (accessible via both the TGUP and Web site) delivered 39,668 documents in the quarter. The Liferay environment now permits tracking usage of various web site portlets, and Table 6-4 shows the usage and hits for the Resource, Software, Data Resource, and Gateway catalogs. Table 6-3. Some of this activity resulted from user feedback and interaction with the TeraGrid Operations Center, RP help desk support personnel, and members of the advanced user support team.
