2010 Law Academy<br />
Scholars pose at the famous “Arch” on UGA’s main campus<br />
On Thursday evening, November 11 th , 28 mock trial team leaders from around the state met at the Holiday<br />
Inn in Athens and the UGA Law School for the 13 th <strong>Annual</strong> Law Academy. Law Academy is an intense, clinic‐style<br />
weekend that provides veteran mock trial team leaders the opportunity to gain basic skills in strengthening their<br />
mock trial team and preparing a mock trial case for competition. Law Academy <strong>of</strong>fers intensive instruction on<br />
trial procedure, mock trial rules, and team leadership. Instructional activities are based on the nature <strong>of</strong> the<br />
case (either criminal or civil) featured in the upcoming season receive training that will allow them to become<br />
team leaders in the upcoming academic year. During the Awards Assembly held Sunday afternoon, students<br />
receive certificates <strong>of</strong> participation.<br />
For the tenth year in a row, Law Academy was held at the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>, School <strong>of</strong> Law. Dean<br />
Rebecca H. White donated the use <strong>of</strong> the facilities to the program and Marc Galvin, Director <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs<br />
and Registrar at the School <strong>of</strong> Law secured the rooms used.<br />
Attorneys make up the faculty and serving on this year’s faculty were Julie Culhane (Savannah), Candace<br />
Duvernay (McDonough), Deshala Dixon (Cordele), Rhonda Klein (Atlanta), Aimee Maxwell (Atlanta), Orlando<br />
Pearson (Atlanta), Jon Setzer (Lawrenceville), and Bonnie Smith (Marietta). Faculty members throughout the<br />
weekend provide individualized instruction by conducting breakout sessions with groups <strong>of</strong> 7 students. On<br />
Saturday, speakers were invited to conduct general sessions: Chris Cannon (Sandy Creek High School) conducted<br />
an activity on First Amendment, <strong>Bar</strong>ry Stewart Mann (Atlanta) conducted a session on character development<br />
through improvisation, and Deborah Craytor (Kennesaw) conducted a session on the Rules <strong>of</strong> Evidence.<br />
