Signature of Internship program
On June 14, 2012, Aegean Panama and The International
Maritime University of Panama (IMUP) signed a cooperation
agreement to offer students and cadets of the Maritime
transportation faculty the opportunity to develop their
knowledge and skills acquired during their career.
This agreement was signed at the International Maritime
University of Panama facilities by Engineer Carls Von Lindeman,
General Manager of Aegean Panamá, and the President
of the International Maritime University of Panama,

The main objective of this cooperation agreement is to establish
with IMUP an internship program that allows students
to develop a connection between the theoretical knowledge
acquired at the university and practical application.
This year Aegean Panamá chose seven students from
IMUP to conduct their internship, whereby they got the
opportunity to put in practice their skills within a professional
and safe occupational environment.
Annual Oil and Shipping Africa Conference
The fourth Annual Oil and Shipping Africa Conference
was held in Accra’s Movenpick Hotel in
Ghana. Aegean had a dynamic presence since
it was one of the sponsors and was represented
by Captain Theofilos Pizanias, Station Manager
of the local Aegean office in Tema, and by Maria
Kritikou, Bunkering Sales and Marketing Manager
for Western Africa and the Canary Islands.
Approximately 50 delegates particpated, mostly
suppliers from Western Africa as well as European
traders.
During the first day the panel analyzed the local
market and the οffshore bunkering spots, with
references made to the competition in the region
and the problems during the bunkering process.
Captain Pizanias was one of the speakers and
analyzed the challenges the company’s barges face on a daily basis. During the second day
of the conference the focus was on the commencement of low sulphur products sales in the
region since, beginning August 1, 2012, regulations came into effect that oblige ships sailing
in the area of North America and the Carribean to use low sulphur fuel. It is possible in the
future to have a demand for such products for ships also sailing from Western Africa to North
America. Furthermore, a special reference was made to the issue of piracy, which is on the
rise, especially in the region of Nigeria. The particpation of Aegean was critical as it is the only
company in the region with an official bunkering license from the local government.
