12. For the second group session, cont<strong>in</strong>ue down the list. If you get to the end of the list, go<br />

back to the top <strong>and</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ue the selection.<br />

13. For female focus groups the <strong>in</strong>vitation should go to an adult female <strong>in</strong> the household; for<br />

male groups it should go to an adult male <strong>in</strong> the household; <strong>and</strong> for youth groups to a<br />

person aged between 18 <strong>and</strong> 25 years. If there is nobody <strong>in</strong> the household fitt<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

description, then choose the next household from the r<strong>and</strong>omized list.<br />

Although r<strong>and</strong>om sampl<strong>in</strong>g prevents bias, there is a risk that the r<strong>and</strong>om sample will generate a list<br />

of participants who are not active farmers, which makes it difficult for them to participate <strong>and</strong><br />

answer the questions that need to be posed. In such a case, go through the entire list of households<br />

with a village authority <strong>and</strong> keep only the households that are farm<strong>in</strong>g, for example. Then generate<br />

a r<strong>and</strong>om sample of farm<strong>in</strong>g households.<br />
