Friday, May 24
MEMORIAL SERVICE: The public is
invited to join a memorial service on Friday,
May 24, at 3 p.m. at the Warner Pine Grove
Memorial Cemetery in Belchertown. Each
year the more than 200 individuals who
spent their lives at the Belchertown State
School, and who are now interred at the
cemetery are remembered. Special remembrances
will be given for those who have
recently passed away.
Saturday, May 25
NYC BUS TRIP: Ware Youth Football
and Cheerleading is offering a day in New
York City on Saturday, May 25. Cost is $50
per person. The bus will depart Big Y parking
lot, West Street, Ware at 7 a.m. sharp
with two dropoff sites – Rockefeller Center
and Canal Street. NYC departure will be at
6 p.m. Checks are made to: WYF&C with a
cell number in memo space. Please include

MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE:
On May 26 anyone wishing to attend a
Memorial Day observance should meet at
Pelham Historical Society Museum at 9:30
a.m. at the corner of Amherst Road and
Daniel Shays Highway (Route 202) to participate
in an 11 a.m. services at Quabbin
Park Cemetery. People are invited to march

for the building of Quabbin Reservoir. Call

MOUNT TOM WALK: Mount Tom’s
Rocks: Bedrock, Quarry and Stone
Structures, Sunday, May 26, 3 to 5:15
p.m. Stone is the very essense of Mount
Tom State Reservation, forming the
park’s soaring landscape. See old quarries,
examine a variety of structues, incuding
the ruins of the Eyrie House, a 19th
Century mountaintop resort, and the Stone
House Visitor Center, built in the 1930’s
with help from the Civilian Conservation
Corps. Meet at the Stone House Visitor
Center, 77 Christopher Clark Road,
Holyoke. Approximately three miles round
trip, mostly well graded with some rough
rocky sections. Easy pace. Free ($2 per
vehicle entrance fee). Bring water, bug
spray, wear sturdy shoes. Questions, call

Monday, May 27
MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES: A Salute
to the Veterans interred at Belchertown’s
South Cemetery will be from 8:30 to 8:45
a.m. A parade will be held in the center of
town starting at 10 a.m.
BARBECUE: The Belchertown VFW
will hold its annual Memorial Day barbecue
on Monday, May 27 from 1 to 6 p.m.
Tickets are $5. They will serve hamburgers,
hotdogs, barbecue chicken, and homemade
salads.
Saturday, June 1
CAN, BOTTLE DRIVE: The
Belchertown Day School Parent Association
is having a can and bottle drive fundraiser.
Profits will benefit the children’s programs.
Bring your redeemable cans and bottles to
the Day School on Saturday, June 1st from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will also be selling
baked goods and lemonade.
Sunday, June 2
ASPARAGUS FESTIVAL: WGBY
announces a two-day Asparagus Festival
and “Spearit” Gala to be held on Sunday,
June 2 and Monday, June 3. Sunday’s festival,
a day-long celebration of sustainability
and local agriculture starring one of the
region’s most famous crops, will take place
on the grounds of Hadley’s Seven Sisters
Market Bistro and Bison Farm.
Tuesday, June 4
WRITERS NIGHT OUT: Straw
Dog Writers Guild. Open mike followed
by time to visit and learn what’s happening
in the writing world. Tuesday June 4, 7
to 9 p.m. at The Elevens, 140 Pleasant St.,

Saturday, June 8
GOLF TOURNEY: Knights of Columbus
third annual Golf Tournament on Saturday,
June 8 at Cold Spring Country Club,
336 Chauncy Walker Road, Route 21 in
Belchertown. There will be door prizes,
closest to the pin, and much more! Cost
is $85 per person. For tickets, or further

Monday, June 24
WALKING TOUR: On Monday, June
24 at 6 p.m., the Massachusetts Walking
Tour visits the Clapp Memorial Library to
present a concert of acoustic folk music.
Musicians Mark Mandeville, Raiame
Richards, Amy Alvey and Mark Kilianski
are walking across Central and Western
Massachusetts, stopping at selected spots
along the route to bring music and culture
to small towns in the area. This is the fourth
year of the tour and the first time they will
be stopping in Belchertown to perform.
This free performance is sponsored by the
Belchertown Cultural Council.

ONGOING:
VENDORS NEEDED: The Annual Flea
Market on the W. Brookfield Common
sponsored by The First Congregational
Church of W. Brookfield, UCC is seeking
vendors for this year’s event. Flea folks,
antiquers, growers, crafters and people
who just have stuff to sell are all welcome
to rent a 20x20 grassy spot on the common!
Spaces are $30. The market will be
held on Saturday, June 22 from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. Please call Terry at 508-867-4462 for
an application. All proceeds from the sites
benefit the Annual Youth Mission Trip to
Washington DC where teens work in soup
kitchens and homeless shelters.
BINGO: Bingo will be held every
Wednesday night in the parish hall at
Belchertown United Church of Christ on
the common. The doors open at 5 and the
game starts at 6:15.
