Chen suggested that when expanding into the PRC market,
Hong Kong designers should begin by collaborating with
Mainland designers. The former have strong design ability
while the latter know the market and customers well. They
can complement each other. “Hong Kong designers can
make use of this entry point to gradually penetrate the
PRC market. This is a more reliable approach. Initially, Hong
Kong designers may not be able to fully understand the
mainland customers. But they should be able to learn from
collaboration over time and adapt to the ways of doing
business in Mainland,” Chen said.
香 港 設 計 師 近 年 紛 紛 北 上 發 展 之 際 , 曾 奪 國 際 性
酒 店 設 計 大 獎 的 內 地 室 內 設 計 師 陳 厚 夫 卻 毅 然 南 下
香 港 開 設 分 公 司 , 不 惜 增 加 成 本 , 招 攬 本 地 設 計 人
才 , 為 的 就 是 他 們 的 創 意 及 專 業 態 度 。
相 較 香 港 及 外 國 , 內 地 的 室 內 設 計 業 起 步 稍 遲 , 以
致 當 地 設 計 師 的 原 創 性 及 創 意 不 及 香 港 設 計 師 , 陳
厚 夫 今 年 5 月 透 過 「 優 秀 人 才 入 境 計 劃 」 來 港 後 ,
希 望 聘 用 香 港 人 才 負 責 設 計 環 節 , 銳 意 將 香 港 的 分
公 司 發 展 為 「 創 意 及 設 計 總 部 」, 增 加 公 司 的 實
力 。「 香 港 設 計 師 處 事 專 業 及 盡 責 , 能 把 項 目 做
好 , 國 內 一 些 設 計 師 經 驗 尚 淺 , 難 與 他 們 相 比 。」
不 過 , 香 港 設 計 師 若 要 進 入 內 地 市 場 , 尚 有 仍 待 改
善 的 空 間 。 陳 厚 夫 曾 與 香 港 設 計 師 合 作 內 地 項 目 ,
發 現 他 們 對 內 地 文 化 缺 乏 認 識 , 不 及 來 自 台
灣 的 設 計 師 。「 台 灣 也 有 很 多 設 計 師 活 躍 於
內 地 市 場 , 他 們 的 設 計 手 法 和 作 品 , 顯 示 他
們 對 中 國 的 文 化 有 較 深 的 理 解 。」 陳 厚 夫 認
為 , 香 港 設 計 師 的 強 項 在 於 商 業 項 目 , 可 在
這 方 面 盡 量 發 揮 , 但 即 使 如 此 , 他 們 也 要 認
識 內 地 文 化 、 環 境 及 變 遷 , 多 接 觸 內 地 人 ,
了 解 他 們 的 生 活 情 況 。
「 好 的 文 化 要 學 習 , 壞 的 潛 規 則 可 免 。」 不
少 香 港 設 計 師 誤 以 為 要 打 入 內 地 市 場 , 就 要
適 應 「 潛 規 則 」, 但 陳 厚 夫 並 不 認 同 。「 香
港 設 計 師 要 懂 得 挑 選 客 戶 , 寧 願 少 做 一 些 生
意 , 也 不 可 接 受 客 戶 索 取 回 佣 等 的 要 求 , 千
萬 不 要 陷 入 『 爛 泥 坑 』, 這 樣 做 只 會 令 設 計
師 的 乾 淨 頭 腦 受 到 污 染 。」
陳 厚 夫 本 人 一 直 抗 拒 「 潛 規 則 」, 但 客 戶
仍 主 動 找 他 幫 忙 。 他 的 銷 售 部 門 會 先 與 客
戶 洽 談 , 了 解 他 們 的 需 要 及 背 景 , 確 保 合
作 的 都 是 奉 公 守 法 的 客 戶 。 陳 厚 夫 說 :「
不 過 漸 漸 地 , 內 地 客 戶 也 算 規 矩 , 不 會 提
出 潛 規 則 , 而 是 重 視 你 有 沒 有 能 力 勝 任 一
個 項 目 。」 因 此 , 香 港 設 計 師 要 以 實 力 立
足 內 地 市 場 , 利 用 不 正 當 的 手 段 , 只 會 影
響 自 己 的 專 業 性 。
陳 厚 夫 建 議 , 香 港 設 計 師 開 拓 內 地 市 場
時 , 不 妨 先 與 內 地 設 計 師 合 作 , 前 者 設 計
能 力 強 , 而 後 者 熟 悉 內 地 市 場 和 客 戶 等 ,
可 互 補 不 足 。「 香 港 設 計 師 可 通 過 這 個 切
入 點 , 慢 慢 滲 入 內 地 市 場 , 這 是 一 個 相
對 可 靠 的 做 法 。 他 們 初 時 未 必 了 解 內 地 客
戶 , 但 透 過 合 作 項 目 , 可 以 適 應 內 地 客 戶
的 處 事 和 合 作 方 式 。」

It is easy to produce outstanding interior
design renderings. What is the key to
sustaining business development
In a successful design firm, creativity only accounts
for 30%, with the remaining 70% being good service and
other forms of support. Design management comprises
many aspects including post-production follow-up, material
selection, implementation, and quality control. Design
drawings have to be specified in great detail, supplemented
with sufficient documentation to clearly communicate design
intent. Other areas include follow-up services to assist the
property owners in on-site monitoring and inspection.
Are there communication obstacles between Hong Kong
designers and their mainland customers
Hong Kong people have difficulty in communication with
Putonghua. Although Hong Kong designers shine in their
creativity, they find it difficult to explain their design concepts
to customers in Putonghua. Interpreters end up being called
in to translate for them. Knowing English is not enough. That
might have worked in the past when clients still had blind
faith in Hong Kong designers. Nowadays, clients ask for more
details. It would be an inconvenience if the designers could
not respond in Putonghua.
How to set the fee for Mainland projects
Hong Kong designers should adjust their fee accordingly to
match market rate when engaged in Mainland projects. This
will help expand the enormous market in the Mainland.

多 香 港 設 計 師 的 創 意 不 錯 , 但 無 法 以
普 通 話 向 內 地 客 戶 解 釋 設 計 意 念 , 最
後 要 請 人 代 為 翻 譯 。 香 港 設 計 師 需 要
學 好 普 通 話 , 不 要 擺 架 子 , 想 着 自 己
來 自 香 港 , 會 說 英 文 就 可 以 了 。 內 地
客 戶 以 前 盲 目 崇 拜 香 港 設 計 師 , 不 會
向 他 們 提 問 題 或 質 疑 , 但 現 在 的 客 戶
一 定 會 問 清 楚 , 如 果 不 會 說 普 通 話 就
麻 煩 了 。
香 港 設 計 師 承 接 內 地 項 目 時 , 應 如 何
收 費
香 港 設 計 師 應 根 據 市 場 適 當 地 調 整 設 計
收 費 , 這 將 有 助 開 拓 內 地 的 龐 大 市 場 。
