Summers et al. surmise that using the model in Figure 1, combined with the knowledge of<br />

the factors affecting skill fade, it is possible to populate the model with useful data. The<br />

model can then be used to inform its users of the best approach to their training program<br />

(following this work in 1998, however, no additi<strong>on</strong>al effort has been made towards<br />

populating the model and research remains disparate). Once the model is populated with<br />

work <strong>on</strong> skill acquisiti<strong>on</strong>, retenti<strong>on</strong>, decay, etc., the areas that are weak in offering useful<br />

informati<strong>on</strong> will become apparent and it will be possible to focus or redirect future<br />

efforts.<br />
