7.4 Updating and Progressing Summers et al.’s Model<br />

The five psychological c<strong>on</strong>cepts outlined in the Summers et al. paper remain valid. Their<br />

review of the literature was summarised at a very high level and because of this the<br />

additi<strong>on</strong>al research presented above <strong>on</strong>ly further supports their approach. N<strong>on</strong>etheless<br />

<strong>on</strong>e amendment would be made to the “Post-learning activities” secti<strong>on</strong> of the table.<br />

Instead of recommending that refresher training be employed at a period equal to the RI,<br />

it is advisable that it is administered at a period 10-20% of the RI.<br />

The model described in the Summers et al. paper again has remained stable due to its<br />

high-level descripti<strong>on</strong> of the process.<br />
